Help for a German Friend H&K P7 M8

Post by NordicTexan »

I got this in an email from a German friend of mine, we work for the same company. Does any one have any experiecen with the H7K P7 M8 that might comment on longer range accuracy?

"Different topic … I think about if I will buy a German Heckler&Koch P7 M8 as a sport shooting pistol for 25 Meter distance.

It seems for me, in the USA the P7 is a quite common gun ( no wonder, because the German police sold 33,000 used surplus P7 pistols into the USA some years ago)
Unfortunately on German ranges NOBODY is shooting this gun …. A lot of 1911, CZ75 or SIG SAUER …. but no P7.
Because of this reason, I’m not able to talk to somebody or to try the P7 how accurate the P7 is on 25 Meter distance.
I found a lot of videos on YouTube … but most of the guys are shooting the P7 on short distance between 5-10 meters to practice self defense.

I found a pic on internet … it shows the original spread of the P7 ….. looks like a 8 cm spread on 25 Meters. Perfect for me, but if this spread shows the “real life” is something I want to know."

I would like to help him out by relaying any comments of anyone with real experience with this pistol.

You can own handguns in Germany? The CZ75 is a sweet gun btw, never shot a P7, but not sure why the interest in that particular gun if you can have a CZ75?

The P7 is a very accurate pistol with only a 4" barrel. The 25m test targets I have with some of mine are 5 shots in a 3 in circle.

It's fixed barrel leads to it's accuracy.

My P7 FAQ page. I guess you could say I'm a P7 aficionado.

I haven't updated since Dec 2010, have just lost interest due to other guns, but the P7 certainly remains one of my classic favorites. I still own "a few". :thumbs2:

Certainly still a lot of P7 activity on HKPRO and Park Cities Tactical.

Thanks for the quick responses.

German gun ownership is possible, just difficult, with lots of hurdles. My company is in Bavaria, which is sort of the Texas of Germany and they tend to be a bit more like our attitidues. My friend is there, and learned to be an avid gun enthusist while he was serving in their army. It nice that we have something outside of work in common.

I hoping he will be in for a meeting in September and I can get him to the range to see how he shoots in our south Texas weather.

When I was in Munich many years ago I was surprised to see a gun store with handguns on display. I haven't kept up with the laws there so I assumed the law had become more restrictive. Is it possible to use a gun in self-defense there, and not go to prison? Seems like I read awhile back that a year or so ago the police had only shot four suspects in a year and had fired something like a total of six rounds all together in those four shootings, so I suspect the likelihood of having to shoot someone in self-defense is much lower there than it is here.

I've been thinking of selling my HK P7M8 for a couple of years. Appreciating what this little pistol can do, one has to be a complete fanboy not to see considerable limitations. I've been shooting it less and less, and carrying even less-er. Trying to be performance-oriented, I've been rationalizing to keep it since my longer-range accuracy with it is the best out of my 9 mm guns

I haven't shot my P7 in years, but it is a good pistol. Just remember that 33,000 of any gun is not enough to make them "common". They are not rare, but not quite common either.
