Cheap .223 hog rounds

Post by nyj »

What have you guys had luck in using? I'm thinking I might give Monarch soft points a try. A little light at 55gr.

Depends a lot on your barrel twist rat but the heavier bullet is great (65 and up). 1 in 9 ok, 1 in 7 best. The 70 grain Barnes TSX is a good shelf round - or just roll your own using published data for your barrel and bullet weight.

We can debate the merits of loads all day long, but in the end it's shot placement.

I've one shot / one kill - feral hogs in my back yard with a .17 cal.

62 grain brass case can be had for about .35 a round, cheaper if you buy the steel cased stuff.

That was my plan, but if all I can get is a body shot, a FMJ isn't going to be the best choice.
