Wyatt Deep Cover J Frame S&W

Post by LDB415 »

Anyone have one of these J frames? Is it $90 better than a standard production J frame? Any and all comments appreciated.

I picked one up from one of our Forum members. I like it. I always carry a J-Frame as a back up. I had been carrying a S&W 340PD. I like the Clip Grip, but I guess you could buy those for any of the J-Frames.

I don't think it is worth $90 more, but then again I bought mine used (but just like brand new).

I had two and sold one and my sister "appropriated" one (she does that a lot). They are performance center guns and have a sweet trigger. They also have polished flutes/trigger/bobbed hammer/cylinder release. And of course it has the Gunsmoke Logo (which some hate and some love). All the "bling" was worth it to me and being a Performance Center gun was nice...mainly because of the fine trigger. It was also nice and light. I don't have a "non-Performance Center" gun to compare it to. Other than the trigger and possibly the weight, guess it's all personal taste, I've been known to spend quite a bit extra on "bling" and happen to like the polished parts and bobbed hammer.

I need to look on their (S&W) website and see if I can find out what it costs to send your gun in for the same action job. What are those grips on yours? They are great looking, much better than the grip that comes on the gun. I'd just as soon not have their logo but I could live with it.

The grips are VZ Tactical Diamond. The "nubs" are very aggressive but I figured in a defensive situation I wouldn't even notice it and they DO help with keeping a nice firm grip on the gun. They also make a model that is smoother. They are made from G10 Micarta. I actually have a pair in Black/Gray that I'll be selling on GunBroker in the near future. I believe they are $75 on the VZ website. I was the same as you, would have preferred the gun without the Gunsmoke logo. I think the Gunsmoke store first made/designed that gun and then S&W picked it up as a performance center model??? Somethink like that.

Yes, I think they made that gun for a client for one episode of their program but I don't recall for certain. Whatever it was S&W started making them. The least expensive service I found on the Performance Center page was $120 so I guess for $90 more than a standard model that's not a bad deal. I could always tell myself it's some sort of tribute to the television show.

I was looking for a Gunsmoke several months ago, but did not like the hip grip. I found a PC 642 at a LGS. Bought it and it has become my EDC. It too has that smooth action trigger. Absolutely love it!
