If I could do it over again, I'd get a 19 again for carry. I'd skip the 17 entirely and go straight to the 34 as a competition/nightstand gun.
My first Glock was the 17. My second Glock was a 19. My third Glock was a 34. The 17 now stays in the gun safe mostly...
