Thinking about a Sig P239 for EDC

The Sig 239 is remarkably close in size to the Shield. The M&P9c is so incredibly close in size to the Shield...I can't imagine the Sig being any easier to conceal.

Shield is close in size but it is thinner then the m&Pc. The thickness makes a huge difference imo, those .3 tenths make the difference. I can conceal my shield way easier then my Glock 27 even though the Glock is almost .4 tenths shorter in height. Also while the sig isn't big it is a significant difference then the shield when carrying. Not to mention the weight. My wife has a S&W 908s which is extremely similar to the sig in dimensions except the sig is about 5 ounces heavier being that the frame is steel and the S&W is aluminum. I wouldn't consider the shield and the 239 in the same ball park really.

the frame on the Sig is aluminum and comes in at about 29 ounces and a full size 1911 is about 10 ounces heavier

overall length of a sig p239 is 6.6 in and my 1911 is 8.67 so if I can conceal carry my 1911 I should definitely be able to with the sig

I stand corrected. They are nice guns but i would never consider it an edc. I carry my wife's 908 sometimes but i have to dress around even with a crossbreed. I guess 10-15 years ago they would be pretty small for a 9mm.

you have to get the right holster especially carrying OWB which I do with 1911s

I held my M&P next to the Sig and the thickness difference was really noticeable , I think it would make carry just a tad easier but like we all know there are a lot of other factors at play like quality of holster, type of holster, gun belt vs. ordinary belt, IWB/OWB, etc. A big factor for me would be the size of the spare magazine - the Sig single stack would be a smaller lump in my left pocket.

If you get the gun, there are extended mags available for it. Means you can carry 16+1 if you carry one extra mag. Every round counts.

I had a P239 .40. Very reliable and accurate.

My only problem with the pistol was that the trigger reset was long and slow. You had to let the trigger almost all the way forward before it was ready to pull again, and the travel was, well, long and slow.

I understand a nicer trigger was made available as an option later on, but mine was gone by then.

But you could do a lot worse.

A little on the heavy side but great guns none the less (it is a Sig after all...), not hard to conceal either. I regret selling my P239 9mm a couple years back & would like to add another one to my collection one day.

Thanks again guys. I downloaded Sig's Custom Shop price list and they will install the short reset trigger, convert it to/from DAK, change the finish on the slide, etc., etc. If it shoots as good as I think it will and if we can get together on price, it's a go .

I have a 239 in 9mm. It shoots better than I do. It's what I used to qualify for my CHL. Granted, it is heavy and large for the given capacity. It was designed back when a compact pistol was one the manufacturers just shortened, reduced the capacity, and slapped the moniker "Compact" on some of their handguns. By today's standards, it's not quite so 'compact'. In 9mm, the 938 is a much smaller pistol with about the same capacity.

But I did get a great deal on mine. I bought the parts and added the SRT (Short Reset Trigger) for it. From what I understand SIG has stopped selling the parts, as they want a "qualified gunsmith" to install them. If you can find the parts, it's really not hard.
