Gun culture in a blog

Post by RogueUSMC »

I started publishing a blog about a month ago. Anyone who posts or follows blogs knows that you assign categories to your posts. I am in a quandary...

When posting about guns, I have, up to this point, put gun related posts under the category 'Gun Culture'. Would gun related stuff be better served under the 'Everyday Life' category? Is putting it under the 'Gun Culture' category segregating it like it's some kind of taboo?

What say you fine folks?

I think that having it under a "gun" category is good as this will bring people to your blog through searches...but even though I understand the term "gun culture", to a lefty...it may paint a picture of one's life revolving around guns when it really means that guns are a part of our day just like our cell phone.

How about "Words on Guns" or "Guns, Guns, Guns"

Guns, for the intelligent.
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

Sounds like you are using WordPress but they are all alike. I understand your concern for the headings as I spend a lot of time worry about the same thing. If someone is at your site you want to be there they will get it. If it is someone else then why care. If it is a potential convert then they will check it and hopefully get the right message; i.e. we not a bunch of fanatics.

Think about using tags as a different way of slicing the posts. Perhaps GunCulture would be a tag and various posts in categories would be so tagged.

The antis will twist anything out there to their own ends. So i wouldn't worry too much about them. Use categories and tags that will make your blog easy to find for like-minded folks.

I just moved them to other categories (mostly the category 'Everyday Life') with something about guns in the tags. I am kind of an anal retentive...lol. Gotta have the organization just right on some things. If I did something in particular to one part of the organization, I gotta do it to the rest...lol

Nothing wrong with being anal retentive.
