Ruger 10/22 Build

Post by Rugerboy50 »

Finally scored a basic 10/22 this weekend.

Thinking about going the conversion route.

Simply want it to be a bench rest paper punching accurate rifle.

Is it worth going this route?

Who in the Houston area can help with something like this?

Mine can put 5 shots into the little black dot stickers from shoot-N-C targets at 50 yards. It is pretty close to all shots touching. Probably could do better with a better shooter. ;-)
The barrel change is rediculously easy. You might check youtube if you want guidance.

Look at the barrels available on Midway USA and look at the comments. According to Midway's account section, I ordered this barrel. Better memory than I have. Others can comment on what they have used. This barrel has done well for me.

Hornet Products makes and excellent trigger group replacement that is cheaper than the other options I have seen (Black Max trigger). As long as you get a complete trigger group and not parts, the change out is easy. I once changed out parts in a trigger group and it was a difficult exercise.

That all assumes you can find some match .22 ammo. It will still shoot the regular stuff better.

Poke around Rimfire Central. Lots of 10/22 info, and some benchrest-specific stuff, too.
The sooner I get behind, the more time I have to catch up.

This is a 10/22 I built with a Nordic Components kit http://nordiccomp.com/retail/shop/10-22 ... utt-stock/

The entire receiver is milled aluminum, it's a bit heavy but very nice. The 10/22 sits inside the body just like the factory stock and uses the same screw. The top half with the rail screws into the scope mounts. The front hand guard floats and is not attached the barrel. Nicely built and no harder to clean than the factory setup.

With decent ammo, this setup is a tack driver at 50 yards...which is pretty easy with the bipod.
