With that budget I'd buy a Springfield Professional. But, be prepared to wait around 3 years for it.

If you want something sooner than that, and I'm sure you do, I'd look for a used Ed Brown Special Forces. For a new gun, I'd look at STI Duty One, Springfield TRP, Dan Wesson Specialist and use the rest for ammo and magazines.
