Despite the cooperation of the auction company, this is still a crime that happened and stolen property that was dealt, and your report could be the one that finally results in catching the criminal involved, even if you don't get the medal back.

Read above your post. He has already filed a report with the PD.

I hope you get the medal back! I hope the scoundrel that stole it gets a hundred flat tires! :grumble
Guns are like parachutes, if your ever in a situation that you need one and you dont have one, you'll probably never need one again.

I would say to give the police some time, but you may need to involve the BATFE at some point if the auction company never coughs up the data. They should still have the transfer form/bound book stuff I would think.

I don't think the ATF is involved in the transfer of medals... ;-)

I am really hoping you get it back. I can't imagine the surprise in seeing that it was auctioned off!

nope the ATF doesn't care about a military persons medals, infact the federal LEO's of any stripe won't get involved in and Military Medals except for the Medal Of Honor and then not going to do much about it, all other medals are commercially made. If I remember correctly and yes I could be wrong the only reason anyone and it would be Secret Service got involved in a stolen MOH is because its actually minted or made by the US Mint and is considered a secured or something like that.
