Re: Scorpions Are Evil
We lived in the 'country' out on HWY 29 between Georgetown and Liberty Hill, for about 9 years from 95 - 2004, something like that. We had a mess of scorpions one year, they would literally be in our beds! I had small children! One night I put my little boy down to bed, he had fallen asleep in my arms, 5 mins later he was screaming, he had been stung on his cheek! I was ready to kill! my husband grabbed the thing with his hand!!! Then we had another one a few mins later....yeh, no sleeping for quite a while! another night I had one land in my bed from the ceiling fan and ping my arm.
I hate those things....I still haven't figured out a use for them. At least mosquitoes feed bats.

Ha! You may be sheltered. The little monster climbed in bed with me and I'm sure it took it's time probing my defenseless sleeping body for a good place to attack. I've been spraying Home Defense every 3 months since the assault. Haven't seen any lately but I still look under the bed every night. I also have a fly swatter laying next to my 45.The Annoyed Man wrote:How on earth do you get hit behind the ear by a scorpion? I hate scorpions with a passion. I've been stung twice and had many close calls. Growing up, they would fall from our light fixtures and the bathroom heater. You learned not to sit on the throne too long in the summer time!
I live in Parker Co now. We have lots of scorpions around but seem to have found a means to keep most out of the house. We kill maybe 3-4 a year in the house and most of those are in a downstairs bathroom shower rig across from the garage door. I think they are after water in the summer time.
1 - we use Terminex which keeps the bugs the scorpions eat mostly out of the house.
2- I put copper mesh in all the weep holes in the brick. Scorpions like to come in though the weep holes or any opening in the walls and then crawl up into the attic.
3- I use glue pads in the garage and barn. They kill a half dozen or so per year in the garage. (it's really funny when the cat gets into the glue pad...off to the races!)
4- I have one of those chirping noise makers in the attic. I don't know if they really work but we've had no attic pests in the 11 years we've lived here.
5- I've noticed we have a lot of toads and lizards living around the property. I like to think they eat scorpions so toads are my friends!

I suggest a simple solution to your glove problem. Wrap them tightly with rubber bands at the wrist end. Voila, no worries next time you need your gloves. I do the same to my gardening gloves.anygunanywhere wrote:About 11:00 this morning I gathered up all of my brush clearing tools and loaded it into the Super Duty for an enjoyable bit of yaupon clearing. When I arrived at the back fence line i dutifully put on my leather gloves and other PPe and started working. The gloves are well broke in and comfortable, like an old pair of shoes.
I dug into the task and WHAM! A searing pain on my left index finger inside my glove. It feels like a hot poker is digging into my skin. I dropped what I was doing and pulled my glove off. Small baby scorpion nailed me. Hurt like the blazes.
Went inside and told Mrs Anygun. Took some benedryl and ibuprofen. Finger started tingling and went numb. Still burning right now.
I always check my shoes and clothes. Guess I need to expand my dilligence.

It sounds as if you had a serious reaction to me, numbness and tingling in the mouth may progress to swelling of your tongue or throat next time. I highly recommend discussing this with your doctor next time you see him.

Mrs Anygunanywhere is making me go see the doctor after this episode. The numbness and tingling had me going. We keep Benadryl handy but more focused treatment might be prudent.Dragonfighter wrote:CHLLady wrote:I suggest a simple solution to your glove problem. I always smash my gloves a little before I put them on so I smash anything inside.

Specifically request some extra peanut butter scent glue boards for the house. They buy them in large bulk, so they're a lot cheaper than you can get a small pack.kragluver wrote:1 - we use Terminex which keeps the bugs the scorpions eat mostly out of the house.
