Happy Democracy Day!

Post by n5wd »

Despite the lousy weather forcast, I waited to vote until today, since this the first time in a decade and a half that I've voted in a new precinct /location. And the forcast was correct -the rain started about 3:30 this morning and didn't let up much until about 7:15 when I left early to swing by the Ponder City Hall to meet my new neighbors.

Hope everyone that hasn't already voted gets to the polls to exercise our most basic tenant of democracy, today!

I haven't gone yet, but that's just because I woke up maybe 30 minutes ago, and have spent about 20 of said minutes on the phone. As soon as I finish getting ready, I'm going to download a sample ballot to double-check that I know how I want to vote, then it's my first stop for today.

My wife and I will be going to the polls after our DIL picks up our granddaughter at around 4:30 pm.

My voting place was way out in the boondocks in a small Baptist church. It took me two hours to find it as both Yahoo maps and my GPS gave the wrong location. I was voter number 10, so it wasn't exactly a busy location.

Our location had changed and we had to drive far to find it. Not a single sign was out to indicate where to vote, I thought for sure I'd see a "VOTE HERE" sign at the entrance to the road and then again at the entrance to the church (polling place), nope :???: The parking lot was empty and my heart sank. We drove up to the place (had picked up my elderly parents along to way to help them get to the polls) and parked and then finally saw some lights on and realized we were in the right place and someone was actually there.
I proudly walked in wearing my pro-second amendment shirt, showed my CHL as my ID and cast my vote. We were voters #s 61-64 (Mom, Dad, my husband and me). As we were finishing up there were about eight more people that showed up to cast their votes.
There's something so special about casting your vote....I have to believe that I can make a difference with my vote....because otherwise......nope, not even going to allow myself to go there.

Thank you to everyone who has voted today :patriot: whether we believe in the power of our vote or not, we owe it to those who fought for our right to vote to get out there and exercise that right.

There are reports of Greg Abbott not appearing on the ballot on some voting machines. Anybody run into any irregularities?

I early voted. Abbott was on mine, but there were quite a few Democrats running unopposed which seemed like an irregularity to me. How is this possible in Texas? Nevermind...Dallas County...'nuff said. :grumble

Have to go to the British press to read about our elections:
But accusations surfaced on Tuesday afternoon that in the Lone Star State's third-most populous county, Abbott's name isn't on at least one touch-screen ballot machine. Instead, an Instagram photo of a Bexar County machine shows, the Republican slot is taken by David Dewhurst, the 2012 failed GOP candidate for lieutenant governor.

The image, which shows clunky block-like sections of the video template out of place, could reflect a ham-fisted Photoshop attempt, a Republican campaign consultant in Washington told MailOnline.

'Or,' he said, 'it could be that the voting machine's software is messed up. If it's pulling in candidates from two years ago, who knows what else is wrong in those computers?'

The campaign operative insisted, though, that Abbott will win Tuesday.

'Not even the Democratic Party could buy enough votes or stuff enough ballot boxes to save Wendy Davis at this point,' he said.

Agree, faked. Letters aren't the same. Looks like a rectangle with Dewhurst's AME is pasted over the real thing.
