Thread drift, but a friend of mine said her 7 year-old daughter was singing Pat Benetar's 'I Love Rock and Roll' the other day and her lyrics were 'I love rock and roll, so put another dime in the juice box baby!'
I will bet most kids these days have no idea what a jukebox is.
Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. Leather, cigarettes, chains, kinda growls when she sings.....
... Pat Benatar is a classically trained mezzo-soprano that sang 80's girl power pop/rock. She left Juilliard for her boyfriend/future husband and when they divorced a few years later, continued to use his name professionally rather than reverting to her maiden name......Andrzejewski.
Sorry, you're right, it was Joan Jett. Joan Jett, Pat Benetar, Blondie, etc. I always got those women mixed up. They all had big hits going at the same time. Probably a hormonal block on the brain; would see thier photos and go stupid.

On a serious note, I watched the SF Opera's Porgy & Bess on PBS recently and was impressed that it was shown with subtitles despite of course that all singing (and the little talking) was in English! Necessary as it turns out...those lyrics, and the singing, were colloquial enough that my Northern ears needed the help.
I really liked it though I can understand why some PC'ers might like to bury the Gershwin bros classic.
