WWII Japanese Ship's Binoculars?

Post by Divided Attention »

Anyone know where I might go in the Houston area to get a "value" on a pair of WWII Japanese Ship's Binoculars? I have a pair in their wooden crate that I have tripped over literally all of my life. They are not in "primo" shape, the extra lenses and tool set that are apparently supposed to have been there originally, but the binocs themselves are in "workable" condition. There is not a stand. I would love to rehome them, but have no idea how much to ask for them. If I didn't think there was someone out there that might appreciate them for their historic value more than I, I would sell them for the scrap metal.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a friend who has some Zeiss binocs from WW2 called asobi ofr something. I tried everything to find a value for them. You can see forever away with them. Anyway I joined a couple optics forums to try to find info and found squat. Only reference to them on the internet calls them the most rare of their optics but the article is forever old. If you find someone to value them for you please let me know who they are.

You might see if any are like them listed on eBay. There are a few on there here http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=jap ... &_osacat=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Just remember, these aree asking prices, so may not be actual value.

You might check with these guys http://www.snyderstreasures.com/pages/opticsjapan.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. There are some on here that look similar and range from $5000 - $9000! What are the markings on them? Bransd, etc? Fuji Big Eyes are the ones that were used a lot.

I sent a message and a picture to Snyder's Treasures to see if they can point me in a direction. I am also going to call a local Antique Co-op and see if anyone there can appraise them. Thanks everyone for your input! There are some beautiful old optics out there!

The markings are by TOKO and all the writing in the case is Japanese except for a hand penciled not that says "be careful with these binoculars" Image
