What?

It wasn't a Tom Derringer, was it?

Thanks every one for your kind words I feel a bit better if not still shaken. My husband came by to see how I was doing, he says I'm still a little pale. My right ear is still ringing a bit but compared to what could have happened I'll take that. I won't be shocked if we get a memo with an addition to the employee manual banning fire arms at the office though. I'll feel bad if I ruined it for the others and would be willing to agree not to carry myself at work if that will allow the others to do so if they choose.

Thank the good Lord you or somebody else was'nt hurt. Thank the Lord.............. Uh, may be so bold to suggest you put up the Derringer and get a nice modern double action .38 to carry?? Older guns are cool, believe me, I have tons of them BUT you are counting on this gun to possiably protect yourself or others so a good quality modern gun is a must. Just my opinion. :!: :!:

I have a Kahr 9mm but my husbands 45 has been sent out for repairs so I left the Kahr at home because I was only going to work today, no errands or side trips. He was off today and my nephew was going to be with him and I knew they would be doing more running around than I would so I left it for him. It (the derringer) is not what I would be caring on a normal basis or at all now

I am very happy for you that all that happened was some ringing ears!

Accidents happen. Why do you think that there is Insurance for everything?

However, I would never give the ol' Derringer a chance to do that again.
I have dropped guns on different occasions, and never a discharge. Once is more than too many for me to use *that* gun again.

Get a better pistol. Get some peace of mind.

Be ready to 'make nice' with your coworkers. I would be preemptive about it as well, especially if they are 'upset'.

That was the last time that gun will ever be used my husband was ready to take it out to his shop and cut it up but I asked him not to since it was his great uncles, we just won't use it again.

My coworkers have been very, very, very nice about it there were only three of them there and they seem mainly worried that I was okay. I am however planing on bringing in breakfast tacos for everyone tomorrow morning.

Thanks for having the courage to tell us your story. It's unfortunate that it happened and fortunate that nobody was injured. The lesson learned here is invaluable, and your story will leave all of us a little more conscious of our actions for a while, I'm sure.

I have a feeling Texasgirl is going to be getting a new nickname at work. I hope it's something nice like Annie Oakley, and not Calamity Jane.

Derringers

Post by Rex B »

All those 2-barrel derringers I have seen are the same basic, simple design. A rap on the hammer will fire any of them.

I'm so sorry this happened and I'm glad you're okay; I'm also really thankful your colleagues are so understanding.

The tone of your posts suggests you're open to suggestions. I've been carrying just over a year. I realize that isn't nearly as long as others here, but I can offer some suggestions from a female's perspective.

We have to remove more clothing and sit down while using a toilet. We don't have an aiming mechanism. That's just a reality. After dropping my gun a few times while undressing/dressing, I decided that my holster just would not be the safest place for it when I'm needing to use the restroom.

I make sure that every purse I carry has a small compartment to hold my gun. This compartment stays completely empty otherwise. When I get into a restroom stall, I put my purse on a hook. I unzip my purse and stick my gun inside the empty compartment, making sure my finger is off the trigger and the gun is on safety during this process. Once my jeans/skirt are completey fastened and my support gear is "re-rigged", I will carefully reholster my gun. I take this opportunity to, again, make sure the safety is on. Finger stays off the trigger--gun remains pointed down.

I'm sure a few people here will say that taking the gun out of the holster invites more opportunity for firing, but the gun falling out of the holster takes matters out of your control.

I hope this helps some. Again, I'm sorry this happened and I'm thankful to God that you & your colleagues are okay.

First, welcome to the forum. It is good to have more women here.

Second, thank you for the courage to post. I'm sure that you have learned a good lesson as well as giving others here something to think about. Male or female alike.

Third, although we here sometimes agree to disagree, I don't know of anyone here that would "let you have it" over something like this.

I too am glad no one was injured and your co-workers understand.

I wouldn't get rid of the gun, but I probably would'nt carry it again.

Quite a first post. Sorry it happened, but glad to hear you decided to share it. And very glad to hear that you also have a Kahr - much safer and more capacity.
