What Brand .22 Ammo Do You Prefer?

Post by Abraham »

I have a Browning Buckmark Camper .22 cal. Semi Auto with a Bull barrel in stainless.

It's not TOO finicky about ammo, but it does not like Winchester at all and burps sometimes with Remington golden rounds.

I've had good luck Federal and CCI, but often can't find it.

Any suggestions on brands you've had good luck with beyond the ones I've mentioned?

Thanks!

CCI copper plated. My marlin won't shoot anything else.

My wife and daughter both have Buckmark Campers and they digest just about anything we've fed them. One of them had a couple of FTF with some Remington standard velocity ammo from the CMP but I sprayed it out with some Rem Oil and it carried on flawlessly after that. Federal HV , CCI MiniMag, Remington SV, even some 50+ year old Winchester and Peters. As difficult as it is to procure .22 ammo you may to feed it something it doesn't always like. I just bought myself a Buckmark Camper, but haven't had a chance to shoot it. Fine little pistols in my opinion.

The Kimber Conversion is a little tetchy about the ammo. CCI always works.
The Ruger 10/22 shoots well, but sometimes it chokes on the Winchester or Remington light loads.

Now, the M&P 15/22 eats ANYTHING without a hiccup. I have yet to find ammo that won't go bang.
Love that rifle!

Oour Buckmarks prefer Federal (sighted in for that). Remington goldens shoot as well just slightly lower. Rimington thunderbolts are fine but dirtier and occasionally you have shoot them twice. After the last batch of Winchester we had I'll never ever buy them again. They were jamming in both every three or four shots.

My Brownings shoot anything and don't forget Aguila which makes some good 22.

Federal auto match. Walmart carries it but it's not always in stock. I recently had to order some from Palmetto State Armory to avoid running out. It functions in ALL of my semi's... Ruger MK2 and a couple 10/22's and is accurate to boot. My second choice is Remington Golden bullet, but I just have too many misfires with that stuff.

For general plinking, I like the old Federal lightning load. They still make the same load under their Champion brand but I can't remember the number off hand. For hunting or more serious target shooting, my CZ bolt action likes Winchester 40 grain truncated cone subsonic hollowpoints.

Nowadays ANY 22lr will do. It is so rare here in San Antonio that can no longer be picky. I prefer anything cci makes though.

Yup. Beggars can't be choosers.

However, I haven't had enough in my possession to determine which type either of my .22's prefer. I guess that is something I should strive to determine in the future when it is more readily available.

I've had really good luck with Armscor. My Kimber conversion really likes it.

$59.95 for 500 rounds isn't too bad for plated HV ammo these days. Sign up for a free account and the price goes down $3.

I have a 10/22 set up with a match barrel. For me, CCI seems to be the most consistent of the basic ammo types. I would federal on par or maybe slightly under. However, I have been shooting some Federal HV Match ammo that is very good.

Just my 2 cents. I haven't tried any of the competition ammo.

I have a Sig Mosquito, Ruger 10/22, and my son has a Marlin 795. All three will eat most anything, including CCI Mini Mags, Remington Golden Bullets, and Aguila with a copper jacket. The Aguila I found actually ran exceptionally well and was also very clean. I gave some to a buddy of mine and it ran great in his 226 with the conversion slide.

The Winchester Super X seems to run just as well as the Mini Mags and better than Golden Bullets.

Winchester M22 is horrible. The Mosquito and 10/22 hated it, would not run. The 795 was just slightly better but still horrible. I had 1000 rounds of that crap that I traded away. The other Winchester white box bulk 22 (I forget what it's called) is even worse.

I try buy 40 grain but I usually won't pass up 36 grain if that's all I see.

I love shooting 22s :fire
