Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to close!!!

Post by Charles L. Cotton »

Everyone will appreciate how close this pilot came to buying the farm, but my fellow pilots will appreciate his comments about looking into the turn even more.

He got it leveled out just in the nick of time. If not, he it would have been one ugly cartwheel crash.

This pilot couldn't get his wing up....just barely cleared the high rises in the background or it would have been worse. Brand new plane.

Brand new plane, but pilot error for shutting down the working engine after the other engine shut down. :banghead:

Thanks. My wife took that with her iPhone. As a note, it took me about 15 minutes to get across the little lake that afternoon. I was about to yell for someone to go get me a canoe paddle!!

Those Red Bull guys are crazy... I really enjoy watching the G-meters. I hadn't seen that 2010 "whoops" - thanks for sharing. He's real lucky... Likely destroyed that propeller.

That pilot had an engine out at take off. The pilot was told that #2 was out and his reaction was to throttle back engine #1. Rotation speed on that aircraft is above minimum controllable single engine speed - likely that aircraft didn't need to go down at all, had the pilot not throttled the wrong motor back. The orientation is likely due to a stall because neither motor was producing thrust.

I hadn't read the details, but that's not the first time an engine problem has led a pilot of a twin engine plane to mistakenly shut down the good engine.

Done that, on a different lake, and also crash landed in one of those things.
