Ruger Commander Sized Night Watchman

Post by kragluver »

I just ran across this commander sized 45 last night. I had been looking at getting the standard Ruger Commander in stainless finish. Apparently, the Night Watchman model comes with Tritium sights which I would have put on the standard Ruger anyway. Does anyone here own one of these? They seem to be a very new model. I'm curious about the grips. They look pretty aggressive - wondering how they feel in the hand. General comments about the Ruger 1911 Commander sized pistol welcome.

I just feel the need for another 1911.... :txflag:

had my Commander for about a year and half and love it.... came with normal sights and rosewood grips.... put CrimsonTrace laser grips on and feels just as comfortable as the rosewood.... put about 1000rds through it so far and havent had any problems with except the front sight broke twice... once during CHL quals..... its one of my carry weapons.... good choice for a weapon..

Not sure how a front sight breaks off unless it was used instead of the base to push the sight in the groove. Was it dropped?

I read over on the Ruger forum and on the 1911 forum that the Ruger's have had front sight issues. Apparently, the MIM front sight was under strength and has snapped off during recoil. I understand that Ruger has been offering free replacements. Yet I also read that some have experienced the problem even with the replacement sights :???:

I would think that some quality after-market sights would fit the Ruger.

Isn't that one advantage or owning a 1911? If not, I wouldn't buy the Ruger.

I have had my Ruger 1911 for almost 2 years now and have shot a couple of thousand of rounds through it and so far no front site issue but I have read about it on other forums. So far mine has been a work horse with no ftf or ftes and I have heard of front site issues with other 1911 makers as well as other issues

Have had my Ruger SR1911 CMD for almost two years. No issues. Love shooting it. It is a tack driver.
