[quote="Venus Pax"]I showed my CHL to the screener when he asked for additional ID. This was at Houston's Bush Airport, and the guy wasn't even familiar with the concept of a CHL! He gave it a weird look and asked me what exactly that was.
I set off his alarms b/c my step-dad put my common nickname on my e-ticket instead of my birthname. And I have one of those "duh" nicknames, similar to people named Susan going by "Sue".)[/quote
Can I understand and relate to that !!! Vegas airport last summer, the wife and I going thru security to come back to DFW. My screener - who by the way spoke very little English called a supervisor and detained me for trying to board using "two names". The problem = William on my DL and other ID, Bill on my AA frequent flyer and boarding pass info. As humorous as it is now, at the time it was serious. This guy wanted me checked out more than we are checked for a CHL. Luckily the supervisor did step in and resolve the situation only after I was "detained" for awhile.

Lots of us wondered, and do wonder, that.

Ostensibly it is to ensure that the person presenting the boarding pass is the person named on it, but that system is so easily defeated that it's not even worth discussing further.
Considering that the 9/11 hijackers all had valid ID, it's especially nonsensical.
that's precisely the point, in todays world 50% of people will suffer some form of credit card or identy theft. my damn MC number get's used fraudulently all the time (waiters at Restaurants swipe the number when you pay the bill, so always walk it up to the register). Someone even managed to buy a SanJose CA to London ticket with my card number, and they took the flight.. the 'ushers' who screen the names vs. tickets are barely one step above the TSA people who in my humble opinion are refugees from 'Hamburger U' for the most part.

No, as I said, "their NJ DLs do not have photos on them". That one has a photo. FWIW, That is the new Tamper-proof DDL they will get when their current ones need renewal.

One thing I guess that has not been introduced into this discussion over the last year or so...

CHL's are not just given out to anyone...Right???

Which leads me to irony...

I'm an election judge in my voting precinct...We've always been amiable to seeing a persons DL as an acceptable form of ID, outside the voters registration card issued by the Secretary of State...

Of course if someone used their Texas CHL, I have a sneaky feeling thats a pretty good indicator...

Just an interesting thought...

Bet you're still waiting on the Utah plastic, right? You know, you have to do another Wally walk when you get that one.

Do they have Wally Worlds in Utah? Hmmm, maybe you have to do the tabernacle walk instead.
