Backyard burger and wiener roasts targeted by EPA

It's pure alchemy. "Progressive" power turns Onion style parody into reality.
The school is proposing two fixes to reduce emissions from barbecues. First, they want to cut back on grease flare-ups. The idea: "A slotted and corrugated tray is inserted immediately prior to meat flipping, and removed immediately after. This short contact time prevents the tray from over-heating and volatilizing the collected grease. This collected grease will then drip off into a collection tray and can be used at the pit master's discretion."

But, total capture isn't "practical," so a filter and fan are proposed for installation. "The secondary air filtration system is composed of a single pipe duct system which contains a specialized metal filter, a metal fan blade, a drive shaft, and an accompanying power system with either a motorized or manual method. This system can be powered by either an exterior electric motor with a chain-driven drive shaft, directly spinning the fan blade, or a hand-powered crank," said the project write-up.

Insanity. They are going to have a hard time keeping people from starting fires.

Next every breathing human being will be charged with emitting CO2 and be fined for adding green house gases to the atmosphere. I'm covered since I've put in my order with Al Gore for carbon credits from his companies.

And if you don't believe in global warming, Al Gore is going to fine you.

Where do I sign up? Would be great to get paid to BBQ since I'm going to be doing it anyway.

"The $15,000 project has the "potential for global application," said the school. The school said that the technology they will study with the EPA grant is intended to reduce air pollution and cut the health hazards to BBQ "pit masters" from propane-fueled cookers. Charged with keeping America's air, water and soil clean, the EPA has been increasingly looking at homeowners, especially their use of pollution emitting tools like lawn mowers."

I guess they're too stupid to understand the burning grease is part of what makes 'em taste good... :thumbs2:

Typical tree hugger mentality. Just ignore the fact that the power to run the fan will cause some other pollution elsewhere. Then there's the manufacture and disposal of the filter. Even if it's a washable and reusable filter, there's still a power & pollution cost to the cleaning.

It's a lot like the eco nazi's flagship vehicle, the Prius. From cradle to grave, it has a bigger "carbon footprint" (read: more polluting) than a full-sized Hummer, thanks to the batteries.

Hey, if you're dumb enough to be vegan, you're just not going to get this. We should be praying that they can find an adequate assisted living facility (with really big padlocks on the doors) to ease their fevered minds.

Similar to electric cars. They charge off the electric grid that is powered by generation with about the same thermal efficiency as a modern gasoline engine. Then there are the heavy metals in the battery and associated disposal problems....but hey, they're environmentally friendly, unlike that nasty coal or gas plant they're getting their power from.

Well, my wiener dogs do not have a good sense of humor and would severely frown on any roasts, to the point of reddening some ankles. :smilelol5:

Since my diesel has a block heater that I can plug in at night, is it a "hybrid" too? :biggrinjester:

And it's -still- probably more "eco-friendly" than those electro-cars, despite being 19 years old and having close to a quarter-million miles on it...
