Looking for Gunsmith or Machinist - Houston

Post by TEX »

Looking for Gunsmith or Machinist in Houston area that can do some fairly simple milling work on a stainless steel slide.

I've never had any machine work done there but Carter's Country on I-10 (Just outside 610 on the west side) has a gunsmith. They fixed a shotgun for me and did a nice job.

Gander Mountain at 59 and 99 (Grand Parkway) has a gunsmith (part time I think). I took a Browning pistol there but they sent it off to Browning. I'm not sure of their capabilities in terms of milling work.

I know Tactical Firearms (Mason Rd. in Katy) used to have a full service gunsmith who worked there. I'm not sure what's there now after the change in ownership.

I know I haven't answered your specific question but hopefully I've given you a few places to start.

Good luck.

Gander Mountain, Carters, etc. won't do the kind of work I need done. There was a guy off Old Galveston Road that shows up at gun shows now and again, but I can' remember his name. Most gun smiths just replace parts, etc. I need someone who has a CNC milling machine and knows how to use it on small one off projects.

Understood.

My hope was that one of the places I mentioned may be able to point you in the right direction.

Good luck.

Are you thinking about Ed Vandenberg? He's on Old Galveston Road in vicinity of El Dorado. He is by appointment only.....

Thanks for the help folks. I have email or contacted a great many machine shops in the area, but they don't really one to mess with a one off or low volume item. Can't say I blame them.

Vandenberg is the guy I was thinking off. He did some work for me about 5-6 years ago. Hopefully he can handle the work. Just one more reason to look into my own desk top small milling machine.

Sadly, I could not find ANYONE in the Houston area, or in the entire state for that matter, that was willing to do, or could do this work - and it wasn't that complicated. Found someone in NC more than happy to do the work, knew exactly what I wanted or needed, and was reasonably priced. Guess NC out did TX on this one.
