LC9 hammer problem

Post by mloamiller »

We purchased a Ruger LC9 about three years ago for my wife to carry. She loved the feel of the gun and could shoot very well with it, but the long trigger pull made a day at the range very difficult for her. I purchased the upgraded trigger and trigger bar from Galloway Precision, replaced it myself and it made a big difference for her. Recently, we were shopping for another gun for her, and we thought we might trade in the LC9 for it. I put the stock trigger and bar back on thinking we might get better value that way. We ended up keeping it, however, as a BUG for me. I carried it for a while then remembered I liked that Galloway custom trigger myself, so I put it back on this past weekend.

The first two times I did this, I had no problems; everything worked fine afterwards. However, this last time, I did something wrong - the trigger action seems to be correct, but the hammer does not go all the way forward to engage the firing pin (this is the original LC9, not the newer LC9s). I've dismantled and reassembled it twice with the same result - the first one or two times I dry-fire after reassembling, it works correctly; the hammer does not go all the way forward when pulling the trigger.

I'm hoping someone is familiar with this type of problem and can give me an idea on what to look for. Otherwise, it's off the the gunsmith and probably lots of $.

I am new to the site and also just purchased a new LC9. I saw a video on You Tube that discuss this problem with the Galloway trigger.
