Texas Two Step (TTS)

Post by stash »

The new TTS program will eliminate the vehicle inspection sticker in the future thereby only having one sticker (registration) on the windshield. Does anyone have any suggestions on some kind of magic elixir for removing the old adhesive that has been baked on my windshield where the old inspection sticker was placed every year for the last 15 or so years?

This is already in effect and I no longer have the inspection stickers on either vehicle. It only took a razor blade and a little window cleaner to get that stuff off. I was a little miffed that the inspection place didn't remove them.

I've always used acetone after scraping the sticker off. Plain old fashioned finger nail polish remover. Works like a champ. Then a little glass cleaner to get the residue off.

Goo Gone, spray or liquid - removes any, and I mean any, glue, tar, or sticky residue from any surface.

Spray it with WD-40 then wipe it off, then Spray the WD-40 area with a good glass cleaner and wipe until clean.

Leave it on for posterity! Tickets are no longer issued for expired inspection... :-)

Or Acetone.

This and some paper towels.
No razor blade, and no residue.

Lacquer thinner. I'm sure glad I read this. It's the first I've heard of it. I googled it. It seems there's a grace period on getting your inspection from 3/1/15 to 2/29/16 so you can align your inspection with the time of your registration. That way they will both be due at the same time. Cool!

"Pure Citrus" orange odor eliminator. I use it to get tape residue off of stainless steel, which Goo Gone won't do. Just don't get it on plastics without testing it first, it will eat them.

Thanks for all the good info. I will probably look for some of that Goo Gone.

By the way the vehicle is a Chevy Silverado and it has a little over 43k miles on it. I'll probably keep it for a while.
