Much of the country of Belgium has not forgotten. That country has been run over so much by Germany I don't know if they will ever forget. There is still much hatred for them there and America came to help liberate them twice within 30 years.
I am not and have never been a LEO. My avatar is in honor of my friend, Dallas Police Sargent Michael Smith, who was murdered along with four other officers in Dallas on 7.7.2016.

My in-laws were Dutch and in the Netherlands during WW II. My Father-in-law was interned in a work camp for a while. They let him out because they thought he was going to die and didn't want to bury him. He went from 200+ to less than 100 pounds while there. He survived and lived to age 89. My in-laws definitely considered the American to be liberators. They didn't care much for the British though.
