My Diatribe for the Day

Post by K5GU »

I get nauseated every time I read another reference to violent events that I don’t think have anything to do with law abiding gun owners or Texas gun laws. This post by “shawn” on http://unfilteredpatriot.com/professor- ... n-control/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; echoes my sentiment, and exposes the reprehensible John Traphagan, a liberal arts professor at UT, who wrote in a Dallas Morning News op-ed piece after the Waco shootings, “asking for Americans to give up their gun rights in exchange for a safe and secure country”.

“Dr. Traphagan teaches courses on religion in Japan, astrobiology, organizational culture, and medical anthropology.” - According to his biography on: http://www.utexas.edu/cola/depts/rs/faculty/jt27" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Fox News blog Insider also reports on this:

They don't get it and never will. Not having a means of immediate protection doesn't make anything safer. It only makes you helpless like they will be if ever in a situation where their lives are at risk.

I want everyone to be safe and healthy but I wonder how the groups saying things like, "Open and/or Campus Carry bills will cause more gun violence and will endanger innocent victims". I'm pretty open-minded, but I have a real problem understanding the culture and reasoning behind that kind of thinking. I sincerely hope these folks will eventually realize that their life could be in danger some day and if they aren't smart enough to know how to defend themselves, THEY may become innocent victims they're trying to protect by their "gun free" philosophies. I've asked some of these kinds of people what they would do if in danger, and you guessed it, their answer: Call 911 ! :headscratch

I couldn't find the news article for citation, but I saw one the other day from a link on the Texas Legislative Reference Library,
http://www.lrl.state.tx.us/currentIssue ... rlhome.cfm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with a headline like, "Only Days after the Waco Shooting, Texas passes an Open Carry Bill". I suppose the editorial management requires headlines that spark enough attention that people will read it. Can't think of any other reason the two topics would be related at all.

I don't know but looking at his credentials, he's spent probably half his adult life getting degrees and writing periodicals.

There are entirely too many people in academia who believe that perfection of a planned collectivist society will bring the long-anticipated utopia to humankind. This belief flies in the face of well documented human nature as well as the historical record relating to collectivism. Liberty, secured through the struggles and blood of our fore-fathers, created a society where men can aspire to more rather than being handed less from their overlords. Liberty, though, doesn't seem as ripe a subject for government grants for tenured professors, for obvious reasons...

And according to what I've heard in the Texas legislative hearings, too many "people in academia" are afraid of guns! They apparently don't know the history of our fore-fathers' struggles.

They are not afraid of guns.

Many of them own firearms.

They think only they and LEO should be armed.

They think us peon freedom loving individuals who believe in self defense, the rule of law, and the constitution are dangerous and mentally unstable.

Elitists, including the academics that have guns and believe others should not, are convinced that they will be part of the ruling class when the collectivists designs come to fruition. They intend to keep theirs while insisting that the regular folks are disarmed for the collectivist good.

Not taking from any of the truths that anygunanywhere posted, but if they have a fear of guns it is precisely because they DO understand history all too well. All that stands between their dreams of imposing their version of utopia on the rest of the country is the presence of those with the means to say "no."

I hate to paint with a broad brush, but here goes. The "educational system" in America has become a tool of those who want to change America into a nightmare reminiscent of the old USSR. In such a resulting idealized system, they believe, educators become the "keepers of the flame" of utopia.

The lesson of history the "agents of change" in their Ivory Towers DO NOT UNDERSTAND (willfully, I might add) is that there is always a "Joseph Stalin" and his purges awaiting the onset of that event. Just as Stalin before, the rising tyrant will sweep away all the so-called "intelligentsia" first. In simple terms, all teachers and university professors are the first to be removed from utopia precisely because tyrants do understand their power. One of the ironies of collectivism.

Based on your post I concur on your assessment of their fear. However, it is not necessarily a fear of guns. It is the fear of the eventual response from freedom loving gun owners.

Yep...my mistake. I meant to say a fear of guns in hands other than theirs. Thanks.
