Interesting story on KXAS channel 5 this morning

Post by RCP »

Let me start by saying that I am glad the guy was caught if he indeed is in possession of child pornography. However, what is disturbing to me about this story is the reason the police were contacted in the 1st place. From the way the story reads to me the apartment complex called the police on the guy because the maintenance guy found guns in the guys apartment when he went in to fix a leak. Last time I checked it is perfectly legal to keep guns in your own home, why were the authorities notified if this is what prompted the call? If it was because the maintenance guy saw the kiddie porn then fine, say that and not that the reason police were called was because guns were seen in the mans home.

I was also wondering why the police sought a search warrant just for guns until I got to the part about the grenade launcher!

That's a show stopper right there.

Dang that way that reads is that its all about the gun and could care less about the child pronography.

Maybe it had something to do with the shoulder fired grenade launcher? That is a no-no.

"Police said the investigation will continue but they don’t expect to file charges at this time."

Man, the police are getting much more lax about this sort of thing, no?

Hmmmmm...wonder how the warrant will hold up if it goes to court?

I know a couple of thugs around the corner dealing weed..... I can see it now...

Officer..I think they may have some RPG's up in their crib.....

Police raid the place....find the dope....problem solved. I don't think so.

I would be more willing to forgive man with a grenade launcher way before a man with child pronography.

Who ever said it was a shoulder fired RPG style grenade launcher? I own an M203 style grenade launcher that is mounted on my AR-15 that shoots novelty loads (bird bombs, etc.) that I bought at the gun show in Mesquite. Should I have the cops come to my door and investigate me?

What will be really funny is when it is leaked that the weapons stash (including the grenade launcher) were all AirSoft guns !!!!! :anamatedbanana

Channel 4. ATF contacted DOD to see if he had a clearance letter from them to posses the restricted weapon, he did not have the appropriate credentials. They are looking for him.

Who are you trying to be? Rambo?

I wonder if the alleged perpertrator will take his case to civil court - invasion of privacy, etc. I'm sure that there is probably a provision in his lease about needing prior notification before maintenance can enter the premises (at least, it's been that way ever since I've lived in apartments). It would be hilarious if 'teh ebil gunz' were just airsoft or replicas.
Can't say I think much of someone who has kiddie porn on their computer, though, but, I have heard that it can be there without a user's knowledge (I'm not sure how though.
I am curious how a search warrant to find guns relates to a computer search - perhaps the police thought he was hiding a P3AT or a Bersa in his hard drive?

No not trying to be Rambo it is simply a fun novelty item that shoots 37mm flares, smoke bombs, bird bombs etc.. It is just for fun and is perfectly legal to buy and own.
