The above link is to a recent story in the St. Louis Dispatch. It details how the 5 PERSON Detonics firearms firm will
outsource the production of its STX pistol to Georgetown, Texas based STI.
Detonics is trying to snag the US military contract for 500,000 new pistols.
Methinks large industry players such as Glock, Ruger, Smith and Wesson, and Springfield Armory might be able to
ramp up more quickly to build 500,000 pistols, should they win the contract.
The Detonics STX is a 1911 style pistol, but with the great difference of being striker-fired, rather than hammer-fired.
Detonics engineering supposedly allows for easier customization of grip sizes, suitable for the higher percentage of female
troops.
So here's the question.....Is Detonics tilting at windmills, Don Quixote style, by attempting to win this contract?

Striker fired 1911? That's just wrong...
As much as people love the old school Detonics, I don't think they've got a prayer at the contract.
