Rio breaks ground on $15M ammo plant in Marshall

Longhorn was about 8500 acres. About 900 went to the Caddo Lake Institute (Don Henley's group), the rest went to Fish and Wildlife Service. Cleanup continues out there, many of the buildings have been demolished, and as areas become available they are transferred to F&W. As an aside - LBJ was the proponent behind location of Longhorn. Directly benefiting from it was the Taylor family who owned a big chunk of the land. If you are a Texan - you already know that Lady Bird was a Taylor - the rest is history.

It was probably built by Brown and Root! Glad to see a native son's group (Henley's not LBJ's) will benefit.
BTW I assume Fish and Wildlife Service is Federal F&W not TPWD?

Actually - this plant was built by Ford, Bacon and Davis of New York City. Yes - property went to, is being transferred to, the Department of the Interior to be managed by F&WS.

B&R was building Lonestar ammo plant in New Boston and (I think) Red River depot on the other side of the fence. BR was also building probably another 10 to 15 other facilities across the states - all told I think I remember there was about 8 to 11 depots, about twenty ammunition and heavy plants, and some 6 or 7 test ranges - all during the runup to the war. Busy, busy, busy...

I'm happy to hear this. I firmly believe that RIO has outstanding quality, especially at it's pricing. I prefer RIO over Winchester without glance, and even over Remington as of the past two years. My favorite is their #6 high brass. Never had any other shot shell preform as well as it out of my primary rig.
