Daily Dozen

Does anyone remember the exercises in the 1960s version of the Army's Daily Dozen ? I'm
thinkin' about getting back with the program.

bulinm,

I was in the Army in the 60's and don't recall the daily dozen.

Of course, at this point in life I don't recall what I ate yesterday, so there's that...

Your best option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.
When those fail, aim for center mass.

Gosh, I remember them! Turn & bounch, bend & reach, 4 count pushup, 8 count pushup, etc, etc.,etc.

I'd like to start back myself. But it's soooooo much trouble.

Not sure about the 1960s. I was still in school. In 1973, at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, it went something like this. ;-)

Platoon, Atten-tion!

Extend to the Left, March!

Arms downward, Move!

Left, Face!

Extend to the Left, March!

Arms downward, Move!

Right, Face!

From front to rear, Count-Off!

Event numbers to the left, Uncover!

Stand At - Ease!

Exercise One, Army Conditioning Drill One ... The Side Straddle Hop. A four count exercise performed at a moderate cadence.

Starting position is the position of attention.

On count one, perform a short hop while moving your feet shoulder width apart. Simultaneously, swing your arms to the side from your hips to above your head with elbows locked, fingers extended and joined, finger tips touching.

On count two, perform a short hop, swing your arms, and return to the position of attention.

Counts three and four are the same as counts one and two.

We will perform ten repetitions. I will count the cadence, you will count the repetitions. I will signify the last repetition by raising the inflection of my voice.

Platoon, Atten-tion!

The Side Straddle Hop!

THE SIDE STRADDLE HOP!

In cadence, Exercise!

One ... Two ... Three ... ONE!

One ... Two ... Three ... TWO!

...

One ... Two ... Three ... NINER!

ONE ... TWO ... THREE ... HALT!

Rest!

OLJAMES3, that's funny, and shows quite a memory.

I seem to remember that we started off with the side-straddle hop, and ended with the 8-count pushup,
but the 10 in between I've forgotten - and their order.
