Small mini rant. I wish my local gun shops owners would tell the guys that seem to live there, are self appointed experts on everything gun, weapon, reloading ect. To leave the customers alone. I have walked out of a gun shop with money in hand several times because the experts told me I did not, want, need ect. The particular gun I was looking at. I have told several of the experts to stay out of the conversation but if the shop owner does not back the customer up they do not need my business.
The last 5 guns bought 4 were online and 1 at local gun shop that did my online ffl transfers for me. Found a local gun shop I like personality wise but they are AR orientated but will order or transfer with no problem.

Most of my guns were either bought or traded for at gun shows. I made a purchase or 2 from auctionarms.com and was very pleased. Of course they were used, and it is an auction house, but they have "Buy Now" buttons on tons of new guns, and they seem to be at a fair, if not great price.

Me too
where do these lonely experts come from anyway ? Do they leave ever, or just sleep on the floor ?

What do you consider as too high for transfer fees?

I guess that begs the question - what does everyone pay for transfer fees in the Houston area? My FFL charges me $25 per transfer.

I've gotten everything on Gunbroker. I would love to support a local shop, but as a couple of you already pointed out that shopping experience wasn't great because of a couple of so-called experts, or not being able to get waited on for 15 minutes, or not having what I'm looking for and then not knowing if they could get it (and I'm talking something common) and acting like they couldn't be bothered to find out if they could. I'm glad that a couple of recommendations have been made as I'd like to find a good local store but sounds like they're a bit of a drive as I'm almost to Conroe.

Too bad neither of those are in the Houston area. I'd love to find someone here who does an FFL transfer for that.

In the section of the forum where you can sell/trade guns, there's a sub-forum devoted to FFL holders who will do transfers. In looking at it there's quite a few in the Houston area. One is in Katy who does transfers for $10. I stopped looking when I saw him. Give it a look:

Why would anyone tolerate 'buttinski' local gun shop customers who insist their opinions regarding guns is better than yours and persist in interfering in what you should buy?

Frankly, if I were to ever experience such, I would tell them in no uncertain terms to back off -NOW!

Then, I'd inform the owner of the store that he'd lost a customer due to him letting these 'hang around cretins' interfere with my buying a gun.

To answer the OP's question: Generally, I buy my guns at places like Marburgers, (a small sporting goods store with reasonable prices) who would not let hang arounders, if you will, bother another customer. Also, from indoor ranges, like the one that used to exist on FM2351 when Don Moore ran it. Don was (he's now in the great range in the sky) a curmudgeon, like me, who would never tolerate 'hang arounder' interference. I bought my Glocks from him at very reasonable prices.

That is a great transfer fee, but unfortunately being in Katy area that would make it a 2.5 hour drive RT, and with Houston traffic I'd pay the extra $15 to not make that trip! :anamatedbanana

Then go to the link I posted. Many Houston FFL's doing transfers for $20, some for $15. ;-)

Note: Not living in the Houston area I really have no idea exactly where Katy is....I just know it's somewhere down yonder, somewhere. :biggrinjester:
