Stop the barking

Has anyone had any success with a device to stop a neighbor's dog from barking? Something like this:

Of the few I've looked at, the reviews on their effectiveness are about 50/50 or worse.

I'm also concerned about the impact on my own dog (which doesn't bark). If I put a device like this close to and pointed at the neighbors fence, any thoughts on whether it would impact my dog, sitting on the patio several feet away and behind the device?

Daily visits with Animal Control will be the only thing that works. They will notify the owners that a complaint has been filed and if the dog isn't taken care of fines and finally removal of the offending animal will occur. Police will generally not handle barking dog calls and will refer you to animal control anyway.

Funny you should ask. We actually bought one of these. It does not work. Don't waste your $$.
The PD in my city says there's no ordinance against barking dogs. They refer you to Animal Control.
If you file a complaint, they will tell the person you filed the complaint against who you are.

Soooo, instead of eliminating the dog barker, you now have a fight on your hands with the neighbor who'll likely file a cross complaint. And we did not want to hurt the dog (not his fault), but I have to admit we did think about it...sorry, had to be honest....we were at our wits end.

A call to the ASPCA was a better choice for us. The dog was left outside in the rain, without food and little to no water during the cold and heat of the day. We called ASPCA due to the negligence of the owner.

He finally gave up and the dog was moved. Worked out in the end, but it took 18 months to solve.

Some of the cities in this area have gone to an online service center where complaints and requests can be submitted. Some don't require entering personal information, in case you're looking to avoid a fight.

I have used a similar device. When first installed, the offending dogs stopped barking long enough to investigate. After a few days, they ignored it completely.

If your city or neighborhood does not have a noise/nuisance ordinance, you have a long row to hoe. I feel your pain.

After several years of asking politely, trying stuff that didn't work, getting animal control involved, having the police show up at 3:AM, the neighbors moved one dog out. The other 3 kept barking all night long. We eventually moved for other reasons, but, I don't miss those dogs or the neighbor.

If you want to ensure a little more privacy, submit the reports from a public WiFi connection rather than your own.

Or use a private secure vpn service. There are several out there. Then you can submit your report from Romania if you want. Many of them even offer the service for your cell phone as well bundled in with the regular service. I know people on here have mentioned gun sites being blocked on free wifi, and the vpn services bypass that as well.

I have used this product on two different sets of neighborhood dogs
that needed discipline to stop barking. Endless, barking at nothing.
It worked for me. Maybe it can help you too. I actually trained my next
door neighbors dog.....one zap and it would quiet up and move to the
other side of the yard. Two little "yap" dogs behind me. One zap and they'd
head back inside via the doggie door. Results? Peaceful Sunday afternoon naps.

I know this wouldn't really work, but it is a tempting solution.....

Record several hours of the incessant barking in high fidelity. Get some kind of directional speaker that will only be heard where it is aimed. Point it at their house and hide/camouflage it. Play an endless loop of their dogs barking 24/7 for a couple of weeks. If they "complain about your dogs" during that time, remind them that you only have ONE dog, and he doesn't ever bark. At the end of two weeks, compose an anonymous letter on a library computer and mail it from a post office 3 counties over, offering to make the problem go away if they will do likewise.

That's strange....in one of the places we lived here in Texas, out in the country, a neighbor filed a false complaint about our dog with animal control and I was told the name of the person who filed the complaint was a secret and I wasn't allowed to know.

I had that problem up until last year. Neighbors behind and uphill shared only about 15 ft of fenceline with me, but of course that's where they put their dog pens - as far from THEIR house as possible! . A big lab and a rotty, left them out there year-round, and they barked - a lot. We like to sleep with the house open, weather permitting, so this didn't go well.
I bought a product similar to that one, but supposedly the Ultimate! Didn't work.

So after stewing about this for years I ran across an old siren I had forgotten about.
It had a solid tone and a warble, and it was really LOUD. It was also highly directional. I had a storage building 10 feet from that fence, so I mounted that siren inside, facing out through the vent grille. So thereafter, when those dogs started up, I would grab the key-fob remote and press the button. One blip, and they shut up. I think I may have had to do that 5 times, tops. After that one dog departed, and other was given the run of the yard. I can't recall the last time I heard a bark.

I am in an unincorporated area, so that may not work in a city lot. But it solved my problem.
