Just make sure you check out the character and moral compass of the candidate's opponent too. What kind of judges are they likely to appoint? Who will they pick for AG, (Ashcroft or Reno?) and what will the DOJ's position on the 2nd Amendment be? Who will be setting the agenda? Just because someone may be far from perfect doesn't mean that their opponent cannot be worse.boomerang wrote:Actions speak louder than words. I have a simple touchstone. How easily can the average waitress get a concealed handgun license? Consider a woman who may work late and probably isn't living in the best neighborhood. Did the candidate work to help her to protect herself, or does he identify with muggers and rapists and work to keep them safe when they attack decent people? That simple question often tells me everything I need to know about the character and moral compass of a political candidate.
If we get away from appointing Originalist judges to the federal bench, we could set back the cause of 2A rights by 100 years.
Maybe even forever.
And if we can get one or two more Originalists on the SCOTUS, we could witness an expansion of 2A rights, and their enshrinement in constitutional law, to a point beyond our fondest dreams.
So let's just not lose sight of what is at stake.
