"You have a constitutional right, that is protected, to bear and carry arms. It is the Second Amendment," Giuliani told about 200 attendees in a high school gymnasium in Lebanon.

Left unsaid was, "...except in New York!"

For the sake of completeness, New Jersey, Maryland, and Illinois are worse than New York and California. New York and California, at least in theory, have concealed carry.

Rudy, if it's "a constitutional right", how come there are so many places, including your own NYC, where ordinary law abiding people aren't allowed to do it?

Would you mind if I "used" that as my "tag" here and elsewhere too??

I served in the Navy with Kenyon Tuthill, and it's nice to know that he's still active despite his horrible injury, but I disagree with his satisfaction with Rudy's answer.

Edited to add: Ken was a Suffolk County NY officer when he was assaulted.

When I hear a politician saying they support my "right to bear and carry arms", I also visualize them crossing their fingers and thinking "...while serving in the National Guard or other armed services."

In my opinion, when a politician wants to court gunowners, but does not actually believe the Constitution enumerates a right of the people to KEEP AND BEAR ARMS, they will shorten the commonly used phrase to allow some plausable deniability. It sounds like the banner headline used by pro-2A organizations but doesn't have to mean the same thing.

Rudy could have easily said; "You have a right to keep and bear arms..." The fact that he did not, causes alarms to go off for me.

The real reason behind the finger crossing is that when someone with Rudy's history says they believe in a RKBA, they are leaving out the part about how it, like all rights, is subject to "reasonable" local limitations. And in Rudy's case, we know that when he was mayor of NYC he regarded their draconian "near gun ban" laws regulating handguns as "reasonable".

He may have changed his position lately, but when he was mayor it was registration, owner licensing, and, "NYC LTC's for the rich and famous".

If he came out for shall issue LTC's nationwide I would feel a lot better.

Whenever one of the phonies says he supports the RKBA, someone needs to ask him which unconstitutional law he will repeal first, and which one he will repeal after that.

Interesting - years ago I took a fully blind, as opposed to "legally blind" which many people can be and still see well enough to shoot accurately, woman shooting, and she did quite well with several shots in the black. Of course she also bowled and participated in a blind darts league. The most fun was when we let her drive the car, she even stuck her cane out the window for effect.

Maybe instead of departing you should have offered to assist?

Actions speak louder than words. People who want NYC style gun laws applied to the entire country should vote for Rudy.

I have a simple touchstone. How easily can the average waitress get a concealed handgun license? Consider a woman who may work late and probably isn't living in the best neighborhood. Did the candidate work to help her to protect herself, or does he identify with muggers and rapists and work to keep them safe when they attack decent people? That simple question often tells me everything I need to know about the character and moral compass of a political candidate.
