Having your plastic is not a prerequisite for attending, so don't worry about that. Naturally, you need to follow the law as always regarding carry at dinner. If you don't have your plastic by then, leave it in the car.

I've contacted Matt about availability of the range, so I should hear back from him soon. The last time we did this was on a Saturday and we gave advanced notice and had no problems. I did see that there is a security class scheduled on 12/8, but he has a split range with barriers to handle that.

I just realized that I have a prior arrangement the evening of 12/1, so won't be able to make dinner that day. If we end up making it on that date, I'll still make sure Green Mesquite knows we're coming, I just won't be able to join you there.

Any thought to eating at one of the good BBQ places in Lockhart. Seems more convenient, but I'm open to anything....

Matt responded and the range is available both days, and there will be someone to register folks who are not members.

I'm not opposed to BBQ in Lockhart, though I am not familiar with how any of them are set up and how well they would accommodate a group. Also, traveling out to Lockhart just for dinner might not sound as attractive to folks who only want to do dinner. We can discuss this and see what everyone thinks.

No problem with dinner in Austin. That would make it easier for those that can only make it for dinner. If the Austin place is a 'known quantity' as far as serving a group that makes sense.

I'm flexible....

bump!

With atxgun changing to 12/8 only, it looks pretty evenly split so far. Perhaps we can get some more votes to get a clear date.

Alright folks, I'm setting the date tomorrow evening. If you haven't voted yet, please go ahead and do so. It's pretty much even so far. Anyone with changes in their preference, please post here and I will take that into account.

OK, I'm setting the date for 12/8. I have some prior arrangements the evening of 12/1, so that puts the majority of votes over to 12/8.

Here's the schedule:

Shooting at Lone Star Gun Range officially starting at noon, lasting until 5:30pm. From there, we head over to Green Mesquite barbecue at 1400 Barton Springs Rd. in Austin (just west of Lamar and Barton Springs). We will be meeting up there at 6:30pm. You are welcome to attend either event or both. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Here is a map of the Lone Star Gun Range location:

You can also find directions here:

Here is a map of the Green Mesquite location we'll be at:

Please feel free to PM me with questions. I will also be happy to give you my phone number to check with me or if you need help getting there on the day of the get-together.

Quick question for the Austinites; I might be in San Marcos on the 7th, and if that's the case might just stay till the 8th to go shoot with everyone (if you'll have me). However, I need to get back to Fort Worth before too late on Saturday, what's the drive time from the range back to Austin and I-35?

It's somewhere around 30-45 minutes from the range to Austin, depending on where in Austin you're going. Ben White (Hwy 71) and I-35 is around half an hour. 183 and I-35 is more like 45 minutes. Since it sounds like you're heading north, I'd say you can be on the north end of Austin and on your way to Ft. Worth within 45 minutes of leaving the range.

From the ctxpta.com website:
There is a one time $5 registration fee to process paperwork for all daily or yearly access shooters. One day pass cost is $12. Yearly access passes are currently available at a cost of $45. The registration fee is a one time fee and will not be charged again if a daily pass user upgrades to the yearly pass.
I have a membership already and I believe fenster does as well. Anyone who is not a member and has never been to the range before is looking at $17 ($5 first-time registration + $12 range fee) for all day shooting, or $50 for a year membership.

You can take a look at the menu pricing for dinner at http://www.greenmesquite.net .

Question:
What do you guys think about bringing along first time shooters to introduce them to shooting?

I have a friend i work who would come along with me if you guys dont object.

She will more than likely bring her boyfriend along, who has also never shot. He is from Wales.

It would be great to let them talk to you guys with more experience and let them see the different firearms available and talk self defense and guns.

Should i bring them along or do you think this may not be the time or place to introduce people to guns and shooting?

Thanks.

Well, if no one else objects, i would say to bring them along. I am thinking of bringing at least some of the kids along, but they have their own rifles to shoot.
