Re: Woman in Southern California killed by 3 dogs
I know what dogs usually do to signs so if dogs can acknowledge no dog zone signs like that,I think we should be able to respond likewise to no gun allowed signs.rm9792 wrote:Wont work. It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

If by "win", you mean that three stocky short-haired mutts are reported by the media as "pit bulls", you will probably win. If any of the three turn out to be more than 1/4 of any recognized bully breed, I will be very surprised.
It's not unlike the other media game, where a troubled "yute" with a 10/22 and a couple of Airsoft replicas is reported to have "an arsenal of assault weapons".
When we let the idjits re-define terms, we all lose.

Re: Woman in Southern California killed by 3 dogs
This is so easy to misconstrue. When a particular city, or area has a majority of either one kind of dog, or a large group of irresponsible dog owners, you will more than likely see that breed of dog responsible for many calls to animal control or the local PDlawrnk wrote:True, but of several dog attack victims I know personally including my own father, it was pits.AFJailor wrote:I've seen plenty of new stories with dogs that are very obviously, american bulldogs or Boxers or whatever but yet get reported as "Pit Bulls". Singling out a single breed as evil is just as stupid as singling out a single weapon (Ar15, AK47) as evil.
Unfortunately, "pitbull" type dogs have been given a bad rap due to idiots trying to make a quick buck by breeding and selling for cheap. This can happen with any breed, and results in bad genes, sales to irresponsible owners, homeless dogs, and unfortunately problems with aggressive dogs.
To work up a bias for a particular breed is no different from what the antis do.

I've never had to test this theory but I think that a bunch of charging, circling, attacking dogs would be a very difficult target to hit.
Perhaps the noise alone would simply scare them off as long as the dogs aren't trained to ignore gunfire.

Don't bet on it.TDDude wrote:Perhaps the noise alone would simply scare them off as long as the dogs aren't trained to ignore gunfire.
I have the privilege of shooting at someone's home in an unincorporated area. They picked up a stray puppy, barely weaned. The puppy followed me to the shooting area. I watched him as I fired the first shot. I was expecting him to take off like a rocket. Instead he chased my brass!
The puppy is not deaf. He responds to voice commands.
I agree that delivering stopping shots from a handgun to a group of dogs would be difficult. Many police officers have failed to do so, and some have shot themselves or other people.

Dihappy, I don't know what your "Shotgun" comment refers to.
I would rather be armed with a shotgun than a handgun against any adversary, if I knew about the appointment. However, most of us don't pack shotguns regularly.

I have shot at stray dogs before when they were after sheep and they seem to know when the shooting is at them and that it's a good time to leave. I've also had dogs simply hang around and like you say, "Chase the brass".seamusTX wrote:Don't bet on it.TDDude wrote:Perhaps the noise alone would simply scare them off as long as the dogs aren't trained to ignore gunfire.

At least if they "latch on", I would have a stationary target to shoot at.
