What have you planned for 2008? Not just guns...

That's interesting. We could pay our debt down quickly if we got out of the war and if people started supporting themselves.

The defense budget is constitutional - common defense is an enumerated power of the federal government, although the framers did not envision a full-time standing army and actually feared one.Stupid wrote:U.S. Spending Top Three List: War, Disease and Debt
I see 2008 - 2012 as being very tumultuous years for the United States of America. This nation is technically bankrupt right now. And do you know where the spending is going? Check this out: The top three things that the U.S. government spends money on are: (figures from 2006)
1) WAR: Department of Defense + Veterans' benefits ($580.5 billion)
2) DISEASE: Medicare + Medicaid ($614.1 billion)
3) DEBT: Debt to the people (Social Security + Welfare) and to debt holders (interest on national debt) ($1,115.4 billion)
What's fascinating about all this is that these three things take up 85% of the federal budget! (Total 2006 federal budget was $2.7 trillion.)

If we as a nation were truly a strong world power and projected the proper attitude we would not have to be policing the world.
We should have finished the job back in WW2.
The rest is just earmarks, pork, and entitlements meant to maintain a nanny state to keep the subjects in control and to keep government growing..
If you really want to gripe about high taxes and overspending just look at what they dole out. Social programs are really socialist programs.

Agreed on most, especially Iran. Carter flailed like a perch for how many years, and the hostages were released what, 20 minutes after Reagan was innaugerated(sp)? The world laughs at America's democrats, as they are often proven to be weak on defense and socialist cowards who give everything away, then ask our pilots to patch their blackhawks with duct tape.
Defense is my #1 issue. I do believe that we are on the frontlines of another cold war. If you think Bubba was bad, and you think Hillary is scary, Obama makes them look like Goldwater.

Probably. We need to take back the congress. If we focus on those who signed onto Heller nothing from the antis will pass. Activism is what we need. I can not vote for McCain, but even if I do not vote for the president, I will vote in all other elections.Stupid wrote:1. If democrat takes office, the likelihood of another AWB is pretty much a certainty
Not necessarily. If Dems take over something worse will happen. How read up are you on the Iranians? Can you say "Carter Fiasco?" Ahmedinejad is not a fool, but he does study history, and if Billary or Osama takes over, I predict that the Iranians will do something because the Dems have not done anything to show that they have changed from the Carter administration.Stupid wrote:2. If GOP takes office, the war will be less likely to end in some time soon, continuing to be the money drain, which causes the dollar to further decline - hint: every American makes less money year by year.
True conservatives do not. Left wing GOP and the coward wing of the GOP do. The true conservatives are hubgry for a leader. Who is it?Stupid wrote:3. Both republican and democrats want to tax cut/rebate and all kinds of social benefits, but where is the money coming from? Nobody cares except for Ron Paul.
No argument there. I agree.Stupid wrote:4. The only clear minded candidate, Ron Paul, is not going to be elected. People are so emotionally and so short-sighted and few can see beyond 3 months in their life.
You can truly thank the current congress and Bush on this for not reducing spending. I must stress that the defense budget is still a small part of the fed budget. Most of the increases have been for entitlements and handouts. Can you say Katrina?Stupid wrote:5. For those who don't understand what declination of dollar means:
The gun you want to buy for $1000 this year, will be $2000 next year.
You are making about 50% less compared to last year if you only get 3-5% raise this year, and you will make much less next year. Prices of all the reload supplies are rising. So is ammo. The Blazer Brass in .45 were sold for $9.79 two months ago, now is $14.99.
Sorry, the congress has more to do this. Again, can you say pork?Stupid wrote:All thanks go to Mr. Bush, and to those who elected him, of course.
Your stockpiles, at this point in time, are not what you need to focus on. Tell us exactly how often your legislators hear from you?Stupid wrote:So, back to the subject, what can we stock to help us in this turmoil? What gun related stuff can we buy to minimize our loss in a long run?

Well, to be intellectually honest, right now the world is laughing at America's republicans. Dubya is lucky to have 35% approval ratings at home - overseas it's much worse.lawrnk wrote:The world laughs at America's democrats
Whether or not we should care what the world thinks is up to debate, I guess.
I wonder, though - will the same people who were so angry with the left's fierce criticism of the president during a time of war feel the same way when Obama is president?
Re: What have you planned for 2008? Not just guns...
You know what is even worse? Dubya's approval ratings are twice that of congress. Congress WISHES 35% of the population approved of them instead of the 19% that do.JasonH wrote:Well, to be intellectually honest, right now the world is laughing at America's republicans. But somehow more than 95% of the incumbents get reelected.
Maybe they need to recount the ballots.

I consider the fact that we are hated by the French, and other insignifigant nations, as a badge of honor.JasonH wrote:Well, to be intellectually honest, right now the world is laughing at America's republicans. Since you were supporting Obama until recently, how do you feel about him now?

I can't say I will vote for McCain, but I WILL VOTE AGAINST THE SOCIALIST!! (Hilliary or Obama). It will be up to all of use to get the right people elected to the congressional offices to keep the government in check. My opinion is to buy all the guns and ammo you can afford before years end.
Remind everyone to vote!

John Mcain here too. I have to say that there are others who would have made far better candidates on the Rep side, but to vote for Hitlery or Osama would be too hard a pill to swallow. Unfortunately a vote for Ron Paul is essentially a vote for either one of them, and we all know it. I too am a fan of Pauls ideas. I am not however a fan of the man himself. He tends to come across like a lunatic who isnt to be taken seriously. Ive said it before, and Ill say it again, If Ron Paul had Reagans charm and speaking ability he would be a shoe in. The whole UFO thing doesnt help him either.
I look at it this way - We already know the Clinton history toward guns and those who own them. All one has to do is look at Obamas record before he came to the Senate, and you would see that he is almost a carbon copy.
At least McCain shows some respect toward us. Realistically John McCain is the only choice for me.

I don't know. My planning is based on the local laws and customs in those countries.asleepatthereel wrote:aardwolf wrote:Braken's Brad Fallon character had a good idea. His fatal flaw was procrastination.

Beans, bullets and band aids.
I have learned a tremendous amount by reading survivalblog.com - I highly recommend the site although I don't agree with everything they write.
Have at least a year's worth of food available, plenty of ammo (for use and for selling/bartering) and medical supplies. A source of water (even if it's rainbarrels) and you'll be all set for a minimum level of comfort, should the need arise.
It's far better to be prepared and not need it, than to be unprepared and needing it.
Once I realized Ron Paul would not be elected, I doubled up my preparedness efforts.

Not having checked out the recommended blog as of yet, I'm going to throw out a couple questions. The firs being what medical supplies can we get our hands on sans prescription. Can I just buy antibiotics at the drug store?
Question numero Dos - Most canned goods have a 'use by' date on them of anywhere between 18 mos and three years. Do they actually last longer than that? If not, then doesn't that mean that I have to buy a new year's worth of food every 36 months?
Question four - have you ever considered attending a school started by a guy named Tom Brown? He was trained by one of the few great Native American trackers (a tracker who is Native American, not a tracker that tracks Native Americans), and has gone on to train folks from the military and certain other federal agencies. The movie 'The Hunted' was based on him. He was played by Tommy Lee Jones. A good friend of mine recently completed his basic course and had a blast.
It is better to be judged by twelve than carried by six. But if you eat enough ice cream, you might have to get 12 guys to carry you.
