I am probably too stupid, so my view may be just "stupid."

People often talk about personal security/safety here, but rarely touch the topic of financial security.

The 2009 definitely does not look too good:

1. If democrat takes office, the likelihood of another AWB is pretty much a certainty
2. If GOP takes office, the war will be less likely to end in some time soon, continuing to be the money drain, which causes the dollar to further decline - hint: every American makes less money year by year.
3. Both republican and democrats want to tax cut/rebate and all kinds of social benefits, but where is the money coming from? Nobody cares except for Ron Paul.
4. The only clear minded candidate, Ron Paul, is not going to be elected. People are so emotionally and so short-sighted and few can see beyond 3 months in their life.
5. For those who don't understand what declination of dollar means:
The gun you want to buy for $1000 this year, will be $2000 next year.
You are making about 50% less compared to last year if you only get 3-5% raise this year, and you will make much less next year.
Prices of all the reload supplies are rising.
So is ammo. The Blazer Brass in .45 were sold for $9.79 two months ago, now is $14.99.

So, back to the subject, what can we stock to help us in this turmoil? What gun related stuff can we buy to minimize our loss in a long run?

Well, I hadn't planned on purchasing any new guns in 2008 because I spent a ton of money on guns in 2007. But I've already purchased a Taurus PT 1911 and a S&W 642 Airweight Crimson Trace.

The more I listen to Ron Paul, the more I like him. He gets my vote, but unfortunately, I don't think he has a snowball's chance in Hades of being elected. Most people don't want to grasp what he's saying, and the mainstream media rarely even mentions him.

Congress, however, has far more power than anyone seems to notice. It might not be as difficult to get more people with his mindset into house & senate seats.

Agree that neither is optimal, but they don't rule forever, even the bad ones. There's always hope for reversing the damage that a previous president has done, so I'm more sanguine about the future, perhaps. In any case, I've actually lived overseas for extended periods, at least in Europe, and my recollections in so far as those countries go is pretty accurate. I hold dual citizenship - U.S./France - and have been over there as recently as 2005 for the summer.

You're right; TSRA proved this by turning the tide on years of gun control legislation during just a few years. It can be done, but unfortunately, it's an uphill climb.
It's always best to prevent a mess before it gets made.

I don't agree with Ron Paul 100%, but he's head and shoulders above the rest. He's honest and supports freedom.

I've been buying some ammo, as prices are bound to continue to climb. Buy whatever your interested in that's likely to get banned. Join the NRA, TSRA, GOA, etc... As we need all the influence we can get.

Like the 1970's, Gold and commodities are once again looking like attractive ways to hold on to your wealth.

This election year is going to be terrible. We will most likely have a choice between a socialist (democrat) or a liberal (republican). I can't say I will vote for McCain, but I WILL VOTE AGAINST THE SOCIALIST!! (Hilliary or Obama). It will be up to all of use to get the right people elected to the congressional offices to keep the government in check. My opinion is to buy all the guns and ammo you can afford before years end.

Probably. We need to take back the congress. If we focus on those who signed onto Heller nothing from the antis will pass. Activism is what we need. I can not vote for McCain, but even if I do not vote for the president, I will vote in all other elections.

Not necessarily. If Dems take over something worse will happen. How read up are you on the Iranians? Can you say "Carter Fiasco?" Ahmedinejad is not a fool, but he does study history, and if Billary or Osama takes over, I predict that the Iranians will do something because the Dems have not done anything to show that they have changed from the Carter administration.

You can truly thank the current congress and Bush on this for not reducing spending. I must stress that the defense budget is still a small part of the fed budget. Most of the increases have been for entitlements and handouts. Can you say Katrina?

Some weeks - not at all. Some weeks, I contact all of mine and several key others (the ones leading the charge that I support or despise) daily. Probably averages out to at least 1 call and 5 emails to DC every week. Since you brought it up - how about you? And everyone else?

State folks almost daily when they are in session.

Feds weekly. At least our senators and my congressman (Dr. Paul) respond. Whitehouse.gov don't even acknowledge me anymore. Pretty sad really.

I see 2008 - 2012 as being very tumultuous years for the United States of America. This nation is technically bankrupt right now. And do you know where the spending is going? Check this out: The top three things that the U.S. government spends money on are: (figures from 2006)

1) WAR: Department of Defense + Veterans' benefits ($580.5 billion)
2) DISEASE: Medicare + Medicaid ($614.1 billion)
3) DEBT: Debt to the people (Social Security + Welfare) and to debt holders (interest on national debt) ($1,115.4 billion)

What's fascinating about all this is that these three things take up 85% of the federal budget! (Total 2006 federal budget was $2.7 trillion.)
