Jack, I wouldn't mind seeing a change as well. The wife and I frequently go to places like Buffalo Wild Wings here in town, and they're a 51% establishment. We don't drink, but we're addicted to wings! I'd like to be able to carry there as well. On certain nights, the parking lot gets rough. When there's a UFC event they're going to be showing, it seems like people show up looking for a fight. I guess it's just in the air. We usually try not to go if we know there's going to be something like that on, but sometimes it just happens.

Wow, that's different from the Buffalo Wild Wings in Texarkana. We don't have 51% establishments here, only restaurants. I'm not a big fan of wings, but our BWW is a pretty popular spot, and not 51%.

There's a place nearby with a 51% sign, but I have my doubts about its validity. It's a barbeque restaurant, they have a half-hidden 51% sign at one entrance (but not the other) and if their alcohol sales exceed their food sales, they're either charging too much for beer or not enough for barbeque. I suspect that they picked the sign up somewhere else and tacked it up (don't know why they don't just post 30.06 if they don't want us there, except they might just be ignorant). Anyway, is there any way to check this out? Does TABC publish a list of 51% businesses?

They will straighten out erronous signage eventually.

The quickest way to check if a 51% sign is valid is to look at the actual license or permit. This is supposed to be publicly posted. If the line on the license says "SIGN=RED" then it is 51% whether or not you saw the sign posted. If the line says "SIGN=BLUE" then it is not 51%, whether or not you saw a 51 sign.

If the signs are not properly posted, you can alkways call your local TABC office to complain and get them corrected. If you do not want to check the license, you can call TABC to complain about the signs, but you really won't know if they are right or not.
