...invariably, it's by someone who is paranoid about you carrying a gun.

what irks me is that people believe that its easy to purchase a firearm legally.

what also irks me is that they dont understand and realize that they, america, are not scared of firearms, but are scared of firearms in the hands of criminals.

I resent being portrayed as being some king of trigger-happy vigilantie, prone to violence, who can't wait to shoot someone who messes with me. Fact is, that I'm more peaceful and tolerant of my fellow traveler than any ten of them.

"If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. That's ridiculous. If I have a gun, what in the heck do I have to be paranoid about?"

Clint Smith, director, Thunder Ranch
I've said that to people before. It usually diffuses a charged situation with humor while getting the point across brilliantly.

Anti-gunners usually like to refer to gun owners as hicks, hillbillies, and basically uneducated baffoons who prefer violence over diplomacy. Of course, the obvious implication being that they are intellectually superior and more sophisticated than you or me. This makes me especially upset considering that I am more educated (as a blessing from my parents and the Man upstairs, lest you think I am starting to get a big head) than most people on this planet, let alone some random Brady Bunch sucker who ignores all the evidence implicating the failure of gun control. They almost seem shocked when I put together a cohesive argument for gun rights, and even after that, choose to remain ignorant with some snide remark like, "ok, go shoot someone, you gun nut." It's really hard to swallow my tongue and keep calm in a debate when I am basically insulted. Rant off.

Out of curiosity, what stereotype bothers you most in your encounters with pro-gun control pundits?

Their inability to stand still while I aim.

What irks me most about anti's stereotyping of gun owners and encounters with various pundits? All the same things that irk me about typical stereotyping of anyone who works in IT support, minorities, certain age groups, etc. I suppose nearly all of us who don't live under a rock have had someone make what was probably an innocent comment that was, at least in part, aimed at some stereotype. But, I think we are all guilty of doing that at least some of the time.
