I got to load nukes on B52Ds, when I was in. Maybe not as much fun, but definitely much more
BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well pedalman, I've definitely had the pleasure of standing there for a bagillion hours while you load them up. Maybe a lot more bang...but still not as cool as loading up some 105mm howitzer shells in a C130.

Get rid of the "impure thoughts" posts as humor, it is not, or this will be locked immediately.
If you would not say it to her face w/ her boy friend in uniform beside her dont post it.
Soldier insults will be deleted whether that soldier is male or female.

Since when does finding a woman - regardless of her profession - to be attractive constitute an insult? And there was nothing pornographic about the comment. It was simply a tongue-in-cheek comment about a pretty young woman being made even more attractive by her command of some impressive firepower. How you managed to twist that into some sort of disparagement of her is beyond me. I would apologize for the comment if it were even
remotely interpretable as something insulting...but it wasn't. You must have jumped through several interpretive hoops in order to convince yourself that the above outburst of indignation was actually warranted.

Uh....so where's the insult, or the refutation of anything that I just said? And perhaps you and Longtooth need someone to explain to you what the "likes/dislikes" text that accompanied the photo were references to.

Without wishing to get into an argument as I'm the 'new kid on the block', I have to agree with DParker. How does 'impure thoughts' get to be an insult to the girl? She's cute, albeit not my type. The very title of the thread ('
The Real Miss America'), plus the fact that the photo was of a female and not a male, was already well into the 'check the hot GI, boys!' territory. Or do you think that 'Miss America' is a contest usually designed to select a woman on her ability to converse and/or shoot?

Take this to PMs if you intend to continue it.

Here is a link to a higher resolution image of that picture. I make my living using Adobe Creative Suite and PhotoShop, and if this photo has been doctored beyond adjusting color and contrast, then it was very expertly done and beyond the abilities of most people. Look at the shadows cast by the yellow wire on the fuselage at the bottom of the picture, by the gun barrel on the fuselage in the lower right corner of the picture, and by the gun barrel on the lower part of her body and lap; and then look at the shadow cast by her collar on the right side of her neck (viewer's left). They are being cast by the same light source in the same direction.
The photo has not been faked, although it is conceivable that it has been "optimized," which is not necessarily an ethical violation in photojournalism.
I am grateful that such women exist and are willing to serve our country.

I have a very close friend of mine who is serving overseas and I admire what she does. She will be coming back for just a little R&R in a couple months - before she has to go back.

I am sure that she has heard worse being around a bunch of men!
Why do so many threads on this forum have to turn out so negative? There was no harm done... Should every thread be examined under a microscope? Dp said nothing wrong. The mod's on this forum need to lighten up a bit. I fully support the rules of cursing and keeping this site clean, but honestly, did
he really overstep any boundaries?

As far as the picture is concerned, I agree - a reflection in her eyes, when looked at closely, reveals what appears to be a fill flash with a diffuser, or a reflector to provide soft fill lighting.

A friend of mine who is an admin for me on
my own discussion board has a daughter who is currently on her third tour in Iraq, and has seen actual combatant. She is some kind of MP. I admire the heck out of her. On her first tour, when full scale combat operations were still ongoing, she (and a whole bunch of other soldiers and marines) caught a mysterious lung disease, thought to be an airborne pathogen carried by all the dust in the air. That tour was cut short after several months in country when her deteriorating condition required her to be medically evacuated and spend several weeks in hospital. She came home to Seattle to recover, and was absolutely miserable the whole time until she was medically cleared to return to her unit in Iraq. That made her happy.
The good news is that, during one of her tours, she met and fell in love with a guy - who must be a heck of a man to meet her standards - and they got married between deployments. They are now both serving over there.
Sometimes it seems like they don't hardly make people like that anymore, and then you meet one of our sons or daughters in uniform, and it is uplifting and gives you hope for our future.

Very true! It takes special people to sacrifice as much as they do. Todays generation tends to think that everything is owed to them and they are spoiled. They would rather complain about how bad this country is - and do nothing about it (except complain)....
