Thank you everyone for being aware of the rules. I really appreciate it when you make the Mod's job easier!
So please, be careful to keep this a discussion of guns and churches and not about religion. I know it is a difficult line to watch but try.

Frankly, my post was less about religion, but rather informing those who might not have known their DENOMINATION was supporting gun banners. To those who say its about the local church, not the head church, I see it as akin to someone on here saying he supports RKBA, but voted for Obama. When you support the local group, you empower the national group. Nuff said, points made, let it be.

Using this logic I guess because the country is run by gun banners we shouldn't support our local governments either, or maybe we should find a new country to live in. The solution to both issues are the same, you must cause change from within. I am not a Methodist, but I have in the past spent a significant amount of time and money supporting a local Methodist church project that I had an interest in, and I still do communicate fairly often with their pastor. I have known for years that the General Conference is anti but I will not sever ties with my local churches (regardless of denomination) because of what their HQ thinks.

G.A. Heath, you hit the nail on the head. I look at the large denominations like large corporations. There will be pro and anti folks in any group that large. And while my company and denomination both seem to openly support restrictions on guns, I work for my company like I do my church. At my company, I am not allowed to carry period, but continue to work there because it is a good job and company. Without the money from that job I couldn't afford to carry anything!

With my church, I go there because I like the programs and people there, and happen to know the individual clergy are not against me carrying. There are several in the choir or orchestra that are probably carrying during at least two of the three services. If the church came and told me I couldn't carry, I would have to make a decision if it was still were I wanted to attend do to other reasons, just as I have made the decision to continue to work at my company and be restricted from carry.

Right on! If you are interested in changing an organization, it will be a lot easier to do it from the inside. Saul Alinsky was onto that. The Democrat party could,'t have gone so far left without the leftist agitarors working from the
inside of the party.
Complaining can be done from the outside.

Baptists, eh? To each, his/her own. Me, I enjoy an adult beverage every now and then and tend to not impose my will/beliefs on others.
Good day

Have been away. For the record, I think the baptist ties to temperance is no longer, decades ago. At least the groups I know.

No offense taken here, but I've been a Baptist pastor for 30+ years. I've never attempted to impose my will or beliefs on anyone else. I've spent my life warning others that the bridge is out. Whether you put on the brakes or not is entirely up to you - your choice. I could care less whether someone enjoys an "adult beverage." That's not the question that will be asked of each of us when we stand before our Creator.
Guess since we should not try to "impose our beliefs" on others, we should quit encouraging people to get involved in the shooting sports, eh?

The bible doesnt mention rum or AK47's. Frankly, as someone shopping churches I have found only the baptists to be conservative enough thus far.

Sounds like you have other reasons than their supposed support of banning guns for leaving. If you have a disagreement with one church, it doesn't mean they are all that way. I grew up Methodist and loved the church. When I got married I changed to the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) when my wife was a member. The reason they were in that church is her parents got kicked out of the Baptist church they attended for dancing (no joke.) They belonged to a western square dance club and had done an exhibition dance at the Mayfest parade. Someone from church saw them and told the preacher. The next morning they were excommunicated (this was in the 60's, so there have been a lot of changes now.) Father-In-Law was even a deacon.
Anyway, we moved to another town. We tried the Methodist church and found we liked the First Christian in that town better. Moved again to a large city and didn't like the Christan Church, and liked the Methodist.
So, bottom line, don't blame the whole denomination for things you may not like about an individual church. If you don't like that church, work to help change it. If they won't change, then you are free to move. That is why we live in the United States and have freedom of religion!

No sir, I have attended several UMC in the past. Specifically, memorial methodist where I was a boy scout, and there is no finer church! Sadly, the commute is too great. It's not the UMC in that respect, many denominations are going to "showmanship" lately. Going for making a "show."

My topic is not related to the forum's edict on religion. This has nothing to do with the UMC as a religion, but as a financial entity supporting gun banners.

On average, 5 to 10% of your tithe goes to the national church. Sorry, but it does. I can't really argue your point here.

I am a christian conservative who literally was fed by the most liberal and recently more disgusting denomination (anglican/episcopalian) church. Ironically the only true christians left in this church (by mass numbers) are in africa. All I seek is a good church who actually follows scripture, and the constitution.

Can we lock this already?
The discussion is supposed to be about an organization to which some people here might belong that supports gun control. The fact that it is a religious organization is incidental. Yet we have those who - in violation of the forum rules (IMHO) - insist on turning it in to a discussion on theology. Maybe you will find what you are looking for here:
http://www.big-boards.com/rd/94/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. The comments about what are or are not "true Christians" do not belong here.
