As my thread title indicates, I had my doubts. While unable to locate the specific ruling, it appears to be based on a principle similar to AR pistols / rifles. Since it is produced as a pistol and never existed as a rifle, ATF ruled it is legal. In all honesty, there have been a few instances where ATF approved something only to change their mind down the road. An example would be a version of the GSG-5 that ATF approved only to decide later that it wasn't legal. The folks who bought that version are having to work with the factory to bring their guns into compliance.

If I'm lucky enough to find one or more, I intend to make every effort to obtain a copy of the ruling. My concern isn't as much that ATF might change their mind. I worry about needing to prove to any law enforcement officer that might want to arrest me for having an untaxed SBR.

If any of this concerns you, then you should carefully consider whether to purchase one.

One of these would definitely be better for backpacking than one of my Glocks or the Henry. I would get it in .44mag to use the same ammo I already have.

Remember this has to be concealed but a rifle can be carried in an exposed scabbard.

I would definitely want to conceal, not just for legal reasons but to protect from the weather and dust. I have several contour bags that bungee on the bike great, and I would love a rifle short enough to fit without breaking it down. I have been looking at a couple of the Kel-Techs as they fold down really small, but I would prefer something like this.

I'm with The Annoyed Man. Limited capacity, limited velocity out of a shorter barrel. Its not as though a regular lever gun is all that bulky/cumbersome. Whats the appeal?

Since I recently got a .357 revolver I'm really tempted to find a lever action..... But I'd like a 20 inch barrel rifle...just my opinion. Don't let me stop you from buying all ya want!

I've already got a Trapper in .45 Colt and 1894s in .32-20, .357, .41 Mag, .44 Mag, and 336 in .30-30.

Who ever said anything about the Mare's Leg being practical. I stopped buying guns based on need many years ago.

ETA: Almost forgot about my Marlin 375 in .375 Win.
