when do you sell tickets?

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
I go to the theaters maybe once a year. I have a 65" DLP, surround sound and a PS3/Blu Ray player. Who really needs a movie theatre when you have your own at home? If they wont let me carry, i am fine with that. Gives me more of a reason to blow my money on a projector and screen for my house.

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
I go because it's one of the things I can do with my daughters that they truly enjoy ( shooting is another one of those things ). Going to movie theatres is something I don't enjoy.... spending time with my teenage daughters who will soon be grown up and gone, is worth it. For what it's worth, the theatre we go to is not posted, and I carry every time. It's the one in south Austin off I35 near Slaughter ln., I forget the name. I concur with all your complaints except the cell phone deal, don't ever remember anyone talking on the phone while the movie is running, i've seen them rush out with a ringing cell though.

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
Wow.
This got me thinking.
I haven't had a bad movie experience in many years.
I dunno.
I usually go to the AMC at North Park Mall-Dallas.
The rows are far enough apart that the person behind you doesn't touch them with his legs.
I haven't heard a cell phone ring in years. I do see people texting on occasion.
But everyone seems to turn off the sound before the movie starts.
I must be getting old.
I don't even mind all the previews/ads any more.
I never buy anything at the concession stand. That's where I draw the line.
$20 for me and my wife in air conditioned comfort with good sound, a big screen and comfortable chairs is well worth the price.
And I still haven't seen one of those dog gone 30.06 signs at the ticket kiosk yet!

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
My TV is only 37", and I don't like spending $20 on a DVD that will take up space and I may only watch once. A late 3D showing at my local theater is $9, and I usually eat before so I don't waste money at the concessions.Abraham wrote:I'm wondering why go to the movie theater at all.
They get an instant comment (or shout) from me, or I'm out the door getting an employee. I haven't had it happen in over a year.Cell phone calls being taken WHILE THE MOVIE's IN PROGRESS. Those get a look and a "Do you MIND?". I've never had one continue talking afterward, and some have actually left. The inconsiderate who converse throughout the course of the movie as if they were in their own living room.
I either go extremely early or extremely late, and offset my viewings by a week (if a movie premieres this weekend, I'll watch it the following week unless I REALLY want to see it). That way the theater has mostly cleared out. Plus I sit in the front row and get there early. That way my feet don't bother anyone in front of me, and people know better than to put their feet on my chair. The continuous pushing on your chair back as the dolt positioned directly behind you adjusts his feet or knees on it without any regard for you.
I haven't really seen that..Today, a movie theatre is a cretin's anarchical paradise.

I dont think I've been twice in the last 10 years. Not a big movie watcher. And my attention span is too short.

when do you sell tickets?
That would be illegal. I'd have to let you watch for free.

Solution: Free movie with minimum $10 purchase of concessions!VMI77 wrote: That would be illegal. I'd have to let you watch for free.
The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson
Re: Why Go To The Movies?
With the prices of movies these days, I would think a private showing like that would be worth at least one box of .45 ammo per couple.

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
My wife is a Blockbuster online/store member so we *never* run out of movies...but she's usually the one watching them. If we have a windless night one of my neighbors at the marina puts out his hi-def projector, Bose system and the big movie screen and we get to have some fun...that's a night at the movies! We've been talking about doing this setup on the beach or one of the boats sometimes...maybe this fall/winter, you know, when it cools down....
Re: Why Go To The Movies?
We enjoy the experience when we go to the movies, too. We don't go often but when we do, we go here:

It costs more, the drinks are better, the food is better, and the popcorn is better. Most importantly, you don't have to put up with the interruptions and you can carry.

Going to the movies is a social experience. Staying home and watching a video is just watching TV.
