Why Go To The Movies?
There are some here who go to certain movie theatres concerned/wondering about whether they can legally carry there or not.
I'm wondering why go to the movie theater at all.
Look at only a small sample of the negativities involved:
Cell phone calls being taken WHILE THE MOVIE's IN PROGRESS. (Of course, this common miscreant behavior has become a plague almost everywhere - no matter the circumstances, because hey, the cell phone obsessive/cretin CAN'T be expected to turn off his phone under any circumstances, good lord, he's an important person)
The inconsiderate who converse throughout the course of the movie as if they were in their own living room.
The continuous pushing on your chair back as the dolt positioned directly behind you adjusts his feet or knees on it without any regard for you.
At one time ushers helped insure the enjoyment of the movie going experience, but those days are long gone. Ushers have gone the way of the buffalo...
Today, a movie theatre is a cretin's anarchical paradise.
Too, I wonder about those who continue to attend specific movie theatre's that're expressly known to appeal to the criminal/gang banger class.
What?
Why are you going to these places at all?
You want to rub elbows with these thugs, but worry if it's legal to carry there.
What's wrong with this picture...?
Anyone here know?

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
Me personally , I like the movies. The big screen , the expericence , the sound.
I do see where your coming from though, I ususally go on Sunday mornings when the thugs or should I say all the kids are still home in bed. Most kids these days lack the respect that ( we , hate to say the older generation) have.
Also , I`m not the type of person to just stay quite while they act the way they do. I have gotten some thrown out of a movie before and I`m sure they wont be the last.
But thats just me.....

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
I see no need to go to the actual MOVIE theater. I have a wide screen TV with surround sound so if I want to see the movie I wait for the DVD to come out. Pop my own corn, sit in the recliner and enjoy the movie. We have that choice now. That option wasn't available back in the 'good ole days' when there were ushers to maintain the 'peace' inside the theaters.

I'd rather watch at home choosing whatever attire I deem appropriate and I prefer to be able to hit the "pause" button when needed for restroom breaks, beverage/food ($$ savings there too!), etc....

I used to never go after some really bad experiences, and even then it was an average of 1 movie every 5-8 years. Heck, even my wife and I have never been to see a movie in the theater after 8 years of marriage (she's not a fan either). However my younger brother and I have set up a once every month or two movie so we can spend time together. He lives out of town and we don't have a way to spend time together besides this. His wife wants to tag along with everything he does, but she hates going to the movies lol. We hit the movies early on Sunday, and then head off to the range to shoot for an hour or so, then he heads back home until the next movie day (usually until the next good action flick comes out). I for one like the option of carrying in a movie theater. I'm not to worried about anything happening inside, but the parking lot is a different story. We don't go in the evenings to prevent any further risk of an incident occurring. But having the option is nice.

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
I like to see certain movies on the big screen when they're premiering, particularly if they are blockbuster eye candy with lots of special effects. For that, I go to the Tinsel Town theater a mile or two from my house, and easily accessible on back roads. It's not posted.
But I also have a 57" DLP Tv with surround sound, and it works just fine for most things. We've had a Netflix account since November 2001, and we use that quite a bit. For most movies, I don't mind one bit waiting the 4 or 5 months before they come out on DVD or Blu-ray.

Re: Why Go To The Movies?
I too go for the experience. Much better sound than in my living room. I haven't really encountered rude people at the theater because I go to the packed showings where everyone is there to see the new movie, not talk throughout it. Most in the theater don't have a problem standing up and telling someone to "shut up" either, usually keeps them quiet.
The only thugs that frequent our theater are in junior high and walk around with gel in their hair with way too much cologne.

The spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that I wish it to be always kept alive. It will often be exercised when wrong, but better so than not to be exercised at all. I like a little rebellion now and then. It is like a storm in the atmosphere. -Thomas Jefferson
Re: Why Go To The Movies?
We hardly ever go to the picture show anymore.
Nowadays the movies get to DVD in no time (ILOVE REDBOX!)
I have built a nice Home Theater system at home for that "Movie Theater Experience".
Plus, I can't get kicked out of my house for watching a movie in my underwear.

We like to go to the movies for the reasons listed above and just to get out of the house. I haven't had a problem with cell phones, talking, knees in the back for a long time.
When the kids are visiting, we'll usually make a trip to the Alamo Drafthouse. You can have a meal, including wine or beer with your movie. I always get a kick out of the little segment they play about cell phones and noise. The last one I saw had Chuck Norris delivering a round-house kick and the audio - "Don't do it, or Chuck Norris will take your but out" (or something like that).
We also watch lots of movies at home. Between the DVR, AppleTV and Netflix (disks and streaming), we're covered. Hmm, I just realized that since I got Netflix streaming, I haven't rented a single movie on AppleTV.

I'm a big movie buff and ever since I set up a dedicated home theater with a projector and about a 9 foot wide screen, I stopped going to movie theaters --for all the reasons you mention, plus some others.Abraham wrote:

Too, I wonder about those who continue to attend specific movie theatre's that're expressly known to appeal to the criminal/gang banger class.
