People pay as much for parking and admission to see/smell a large malodorous flower in Houston.Oldgringo wrote:$10-12 to park and then add another $7 for admission? Have I got this right, any purchase made during the show is increased by $17-19 because it was purchased in the GRB at a Gun Show?
That is outrageous! Why go?

Well, I reckon there's a lot to be said for living in a metropolitan area rather than out in the boonies? We complain if there's no parking (free) around the courthouse when we renew our car tags...every year.

Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
It has been so long since I have been to a gun show besides the TSRA one that I have almost forgot how much fun they are.
I have got meet up w/ the son, soninlaw, grand ones & spend a day somewhere.
Man I miss that fun.

That's why in the metro area I renew my tags online. Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
I will argue the comment about everything being negotiable. I have been to several High Caliber shows in the last year or so and I have found that the dealers could care less if they sell you a gun or not. The price posted is a cash price usually they charge +3% for credit cards and they will not budge off their prices. I walked late last year b/c a guy would not budge off the price of a Browning Buckmark. I could get they same thing at Academy for -$20 and they had it in stock. So I walked and bought it from them. There are a few deals to be had but you really gotta look for them. There is just a lot to look at, so take your time and compare all the tables at the show.

Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
agreed. Many of the larger booths there have told me "we buy wholesale and sell wholesale". Price marked is it. we do not negotiate.RECIT wrote:The price posted is a cash price usually they charge

I didn't find the folks to be too negotiable there either. But the larger guys (AJC, SAW, etc) have great deals and they are much better prices than I can usually find elsewhere.
So I managed to sell my XDm .40 today and picked up an XDm .45. As some might say, "welcome to a real man's caliber"
Of course I had to get an extra clip to go with the new pistol. I also found a really nice tooled leather OWB holster (dual belt hoop with a 15 degree forward cant) that I am wearing right now. Its quite beautiful as well as functional. It is made in Mexico, but seems to be pretty nice workmanship. I also picked up some ammo and some targets. Then spent the afternoon at the range (after a stop by Kenny and Ziggys!!!).
All and all, its been a great day!
But there were XDm .45's at 4 of the booths that I saw. The price differed by up to $60 from booth to booth. As they would see the other booth's lower price, most would come down at that point. They had stickers over stickers as they had lowered the price over at SAW. But AJC still had the best price. Both of them had 4 of them in stock each when I got there and talked to them.

Oh it was also good to meet up with a fellow Forum member. I would say "meet" versus "meet up with" a fellow forum member but it turns out that I know him already! We were in the Impala club together some decade ago now. Good to see you again dude! Hope you had fun at the birthday parties with the kiddos! So now that is 2 other forum members I have met in person (Dicion being the other who went with me to the show). I'll have to keep adding to that list.

Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
So I am looking for this random dude at a gun show named phrogg who just sent me a text. He said he was at a certian booth, wearing a red shirt. I find him and it turns out we have wrenched on cars together over a decade ago. Different forum, different usernames, but the same old good quality people. I guess great minds think alike! I do miss my Impala SS tho.
Good to see you man.
I met a few more forum guys at the show. I confirmed what I thought I was going to. This forum is full of what seem to be normal, respectfull, good people.
What a day at the gun show.
And I ended up with a Rock River AR-15 Operator Elite with an Eotech 512, 4-30 rnd mags, and couldn't pass up the Voodoo Tactical 2 rifle range bag on the way out. The 500 rounds of Horniday were a bit hefty to trek to the car with (bought these on advice from yet another forum member!), but it was all well worth it.
To everyone I met today, it was nice to meet you. We need to go shooting!

Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
I did manage to wonder around the show on Sunday with my wife and best friend. My wife was tugging my shirt if she thought she found a deal, my buddy was all over the place he bought a low pro gas block for a carbine he is finishing, and I picked up a new S&W pocket knife for $15 which I thought was very fair and I also bought 500rds of 38spl from Collins cartridge co. I was looking for a medium frame S&W revolver in .357 but I just didn't see anything I couldn't live without.
On a side note...Colt revolvers are ridiculously priced at these shows. I saw more thousand dollar plus Colt revolvers there than I had ever seen. Sure pretty but no thanks.

Re: High Caliber gun show Houston
Hey let us know how that box of reloads from CCC work. I bought a box of 500 .45 seconds from the orange ammo company at the end by the snacks. I don't remember the name. But they were selling seconds which I found jammed way too often. Their new top quality ammo I never have had a problem with but the big box of seconds wasn't good. I kept having to pop the back of my pistol between some shots to get a full trigger cock. Other times it would just completely jam and I'd be stuck trying to release it or cock it. Most of those you'd see some nice case imperfections on which is why they must have been seconds. Way too frustrating though. I'm back to full priced ammo at this point unless I hear something good about CCC.RECIT wrote:I also bought 500rds of 38spl from Collins cartridge co.

I have shot CCC ammo for my S&W Model 66. Had no issues with it.

I have only shot .38spl bought from there but I have been very pleased with the quality, accuracy, and cleanliness. The folks are always nice to deal with and the price is right. I even got HP ammo for practice. 500rds for $140 tax included...for ball or HP you can't beat that price.
I steered clear from that orange box stuff until I heard good or bad reviews from some folks. Glad I did from what it sounds.
