You can save weight with an aluminum frame. You won't be giving up anything unless you're talking about extreme longevity. Inside 10,000 rounds it won't matter, and few people will ever shoot their pistol that much.
The heavier gun is harder to carry but it's easier to shoot. More mass means less perceived recoil. That may get you back on target quicker for faster follow-up shots.
My Kimber has a 3" barrel and an aluminum frame. It only weighs 25 ounces with an empty mag. Very nice for carry. But for shooting, there's definitely a noticeable difference between that and a 5" steel gun coming in at around 39 ounces.
