...I used to carry my folding money in my front pocket in case I LOST my wallet...climbing around in attics and under houses...now, I just pat my back pocket a coupla dozen times a day...kinda like a tic...my pockets are full enough not to carry a second clip or wallet...
...good to read others' plans/experiences...though we had to wade through a lot of sarcastic mocking and snide remarks...thanks for the topic, Vandelay Ind., good to see you posting...we really do learn from each other here... :thumbs2:

...my comment was NOT directed toward your reply...to his sarcastic, mocking comment about our thread...I'm fed up with someone popping up to ridicule and belittle others' ideas, methods, or contributions...it's bad manners and a wet blanket on an open discussion...we can disagree very loudly with someone without mocking and we all know how to do it both ways...

Thank you, but I feel responding as I did just egged it on. I was thinking about it before you posted, and rode in on your correct assesment.

Thanks for your opinions. Just wanted to see if anyone actually does this. Like I said, my pockets are already full and now I have to carry anti-venom.

...apologies as well - no sarcasm intended...just geniunely curious on people's mentality about something like this. I'll have my own CHL in a few months and can't see myself carrying every day let alone creating fake wallets and such. Maybe my mind changes once I have the paper, but we'll see...

knljr, some suggestions I would offer to those in my classes and same suggestions I have always been told... carry always or never. You will either forget it when you need it, or think you have it when you don't...either can produce disasterous results. None of us are able to know when the "when" is that we will need it, and will likely be at the least likely of times. Since we cannot guess correctly 100% of the time, carry 100% of the time. My carry stays on me all day, every day from moment i get up until bed. Then it goes on the nightstand ready to be put back on next morn. Even in your home you need it on, as in a home invasion you would not have time to go and retrieve it.

I wouldn't have thought I needed it by just telling a salesman to leave my property either...if I had to go and retrieve it, I wouldn't have had on this occasion, as I didn't think it would have come to this. I was glad I was carrying http://bigcountryhomepage.com/search-fu ... _id=397777" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Don't forget to carry your gas mask and water purifying filters. And a NOD, if you have it, with an IR light. Oh, and some MREs in your glove compartment.

I seldom thumb my nose at Mas Ayoob's opinions, but my wallet wasn't really affected by them.

I've gone through a few permutations over the years, and ended up with an almost-flat, cash-only money clip in one pocket, and an RFID-shielded thin wallet for cards and ID in a different pocket. It's been a long time since I was carded when I bought something, and I realized I never--literally never--needed to produce cash and credit cards/ID at the same time. So why carry both together?

I always have at least 60 or 80 bucks in cash on me. If I get caught unprepared by a robbery, I'm happy to toss the cash.

My cards and ID are a different matter. Identity theft and the nightmare it takes to rectify that mess aside, what I really don't want is for Freddie the Felon Meth-head to know where my family lives. Unless I allow him to follow me from the scene of the crime, he can't get that information from cash...or from my car's license plate number, despite the commercial Websites that tell you otherwise.

If I get caught unprepared, shame on me. But if I do, there's a reasonable chance some cash might make the problem go away. Or if not go away, at least it might get me inside the BG's OODA Loop, where I'll handle the situation differently.

It seemed an awfully small change to make, carrying cash and cards/ID separately.

appreciate the response. I guarantee that if someone is knocking on my door at 9pm, I'll have my P30 in a spot on my person where I can easily get to it. I've got a couple of these in handy locations. http://www.locksaf.com/biometric-pistol-safes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I have three young boys - can't leave a gun laying around in my house. I'm fortunate that I live in a gated community with very large lots and attentitve neighbors so we pretty much never get door-to-door salesmen. We also have a pretty regular patrol from the local Sheriff...we've inadvertantly left our garage open, front door unlocked and the doors wide open on our minivan in the driveway and never had a problem.

Sounds like a scary situation - one I don't wish on anyone. And yes, I'm sure once I have the licensing in my wallet, I'm sure I'll find a nice spot for my P238...even in situations where I don't 'feel' like carrying. Thanks for sharing that story.

Oh its not laying around when its on your body at all times.... and I have 10 children, a couple of which rival Dennis the Menace! We have a clock on the wall that looks like a clock... been there for years. Kids dont know that the face swivals out to a gun holder that can instantly be retrieved for our larger home defense guns.

Your house sounds like a nice target to me.
I'm sure the owners of this house thought a lot like you are... This is one of the nicest, most protected areas of Houston. The police patrol here is so frequent, it's maddening when driving through.

For events like this, it really should be ON YOU. Having it in a quick lock type safe is ok, but most of the time, there isn't enough time.
Also, the safest place to keep it away from the hands of children, is on you.

I think once you get your license, and see how easy it is to carry, your attitude will change. It's as easy as putting on my shirt. It's also like wearing a seat belt. You hope to never use it, but you should always put it on.

Thanks for posting! I remember reading your account of the story on here, but hadn't seen this article before.

I got a real kick out of this paragraph...

"Goforth stated that the man said "no sir" and began walking toward him at that time. Goforth repeated that he wanted the man off of his property and again got a response of "no sir." Goforth said that when he reached into his pocket and produced a gun and again told the man to get off his property, the man stated, "yes sir."
