I had to kind of laugh at this one. The person whose .500 I shot has a son in college out of state. Ryan was in town for the holidays and stopped by my work to visit. He has been in my class at church since he was just a little kid, but is now a strapping young man. Talk turned to his dad's new .500 that Ryan has yet to shoot, and he had "concerns" about trying it.
He has seen it and handled it, but had reservations about shooting it. I told him my opinion of it, and advised that he give it a try.
Its really not as punishing as you might imagine. Now, I must say that it is without question "snappy". This firearm was the (S&W version) so it had a 10" barrel, was ported, had rubber grips, is heavy, and I happen to be a "full size" person, but I found that if I didn't try to "tame" the recoil that it was not unpleasant to shoot 8-10 rounds.
Go for it!

Looks like you could make a table lamp out of that empty casing.

When Flint says he is a full size person.

That aint no joke.
AND there is not a soft spot on any of the full size either.
I would still like to shoot it.

I had someone shooting a .500 magnum and a .50 Eagle next to me on the range today. I had to put in earplugs plus my ear muffs and man were those still loud. The guy handled both of them really well those. Put big holes in the paper.

You want to shoot Flint? What did he do to get on your badside.

Haaaa!
Having had the pleasure of spending a little range time with LT, I can tell you this: You would not want him to be shooting at ya! He's pretty much gonna hit ya (alot).

Kind of like a much larger version of a .357 in a light snubbie.
Did I ever mention...I hate Hogs?
yeah, I got a Titanium .357 with a 2" barrell, and well, it's a beast shooting Federal HydraShocks!!! I don't shoot many of them, nor do I EVAR want to shoot one w/o ear protection. it just sucks, really!
.38s, however are fun....
anyway, I've always wanted to shoot a DE.50, 'specially after watching that movie Snatch. Bullet-tooth Tony is my homie, [abbreviated profanity deleted]' sho'
I have a friend who has a S&W .500. I've never fired it, but he says it ain't too bad. I say he's full of hooka!! but then again, he's built like a brick, too.
anyone ever shoot one of those .50cal rifles? I hear, cause they're ported and all, that they're not too bad either. the muzzle shock-wave, however, is!

I was in Champion Firearms two months ago and saw a .500 S&W for rent. That must have been the gun you shot.
Fun shooting aside, I never really saw a point in the .500 round besides bear defense.

I haven't shot a .500 S&W but have been around them. Those darn big pistols sure are interesting machines. If they were any bigger, you'd have to have wheels to carry them around. Just watch, someone will invent just such an accessory.
Earlier this year, we were in Phoenix and stopped at an indoor range one afternoon. This was before I had a CHL, so we needed to rent pistols. The guy behind the counter tried to get me to rent the .500 S&W. He said every time that pistol is shot, everyone in the range stops what they are doing. The second shot has them all going to find out what makes such a big noise. We decided, instead, to choose some wimpy Glock and XD pistols in 9MM and .40 S&W.
This summer, I was at a range next to someone who was shooting a .500 S&W. He had a towel wrapped around the grip for firing. It made my .357 Mag pressure wave nearly invisible. As he was packing it up, I asked, "How do you like that big .500?" With a great big smile, he replied, "I hate it!"
