Well, at least now I know it wasn't you shooting the matched, scoped set of .500s in the lane next to me last Saturday.

So, for a handgun, do you consider it to have adequate stopping power?

I shot one a few months ago.

It was more manageable than I expected. It did not have the muzzle flip I had anticipated, but it was definitely "shocky" in terms of recoil.

Kind of like a much larger version of a .357 in a light snubbie. The pistol itself (S&W version) is huge/heavy. It had an excellent double action trigger pull, although I chose to shoot it single action mostly.

To say it took down the steel plates with "authority" would be an understatement. I wouldn't mind having one in a single action like a Freedom Arms or Magnum Research. It would make an awesome "hog" gun, you could basically shoot them from any angle you wanted with the proper bullet type.

Did I ever mention...I hate Hogs?

Can't imagin a hand gun that would shoot a bullit that big. What about recoil ? I don't know if my 150 lbs. could hold that gun down.

Maybe if ya did not have to carry it very far. ;-)

I've packed a 7 1/2" SRH in .454 through enough mountains and briar patches to determine that it is waaaaay too heavy for many excursions. And the 500 is a couple of pounds heavier than a SRH. :!:

I eyeballed that same 500 at Champions, I was like, "Sweet, $5 to rent it." Then I thought, "Ugh, $36 for the ammo."

I hear someone somehow doubletapped with it and put a 1/2 inch hole through their roof.

I fired one a while back, six rounds, the only time I ever saw blood come out of my hand without a visible wound.

I doubled my first shots (outside) as well, as did my friend who owns the gun. It just kind of gets away from you.

I a sissy.... My friend has one and the first time I saw a 12 in. fireball come out of it I decided I had no reason to shoot it. I did shoot the Desert Eagle .50 but it is a pop gun compared to the .500S&W
