NO, and it's not a guess, or at least with US issued body armor.Heartland Patriot wrote:The one round they didn't fire into that vest (and I wouldn't want them to wear it and try) is the NATO standard M855. As I have read and understand it, it was designed to increase penetration because NATO feared body-armor wearing Soviet shock troops coming through the famous Fulda Gap...and, at the time, that seemed more necessary to defeat than a bunch of thin folks in the Middle East/Central Asia. So, any guesses if M855 would make it through that stuff?

If you are upset at the unrealistic depiction of firearms in movies then the blame can be placed squarely at the feet of Hong Kong cinema master John Woo

I'm curious, where do the deflected bullets go? I would be concerned about one ending up in my foot or chin or....anything without a vest on it. I don't know all that much about that technology, are the bullets slowed so significantly that that is not a concern?

With US Interceptor body armor and enhanced small arms protective inserts
Military testing calls for survivability of three hits from the round marked on the plate
ESAPI, would be a .30cal M2 AP (.30-06 black-tip armor-piercing) cartridge. When backed by the soft armor of the Outer Tactical Vest (OTV) (or any soft armor which meets military requirements for protection). The ceramic plate is backed with a shield made of Spectra, a material up to 40% stronger than Kevlar.[1], to trap any fragments of either plate or projectile and prevent them from injuring the wearer.
“
The mechanism of effect lies in absorbing and dissipating the projectile's kinetic energy in local shattering of the ceramic plate and blunting the bullet material on the hard ceramic. The Spectra backing then spreads the energy of the impact to a larger area and stops the fragments, reducing the likelihood of fatal injury to the wearer.“
I've seen glancing blows that created a channel in the ESAPI and the bullet or fragments then stuck in the OTC layers, or flesh.

That stuff is amazing. Thanks for a bit more clarity on vest tech.
