Heh. The best spot in the Nashville airport is the bathroom downstairs behind the rental car counters. Its quiet and almost no one goes in there.

I once came out after rearming and there were five guys praying to Mecca right by the door.

Well, it's not like he had it in carry-on.

I can see someone who travels a lot by car, then is called out of town on short notice, grabs the bag he has been living out of the last week, throws in some fresh shorts and socks, and heads to the airport. Probably stowed his carry piece in the trunk, but forgot about the old revolver in the bag.
Inexcusable lapse of firearm control, but certainly not criminal behaviour.
